His steps get closer to my room, and I know what’s coming. I don’t even bother to fight him; I need to catch him by surprise so that I can escape. It’s my only chance and if I don’t make it then he’s welcome to kill me because I don’t want to live my life like this anymore. I can’t take it.

“Good morning, baby.” His sickly voice makes me stand up. “Time to show you who is your man.”

“I know who my men are. And they’re not you.”

“Yes, you greedy fucker. While I was waiting for you to come back to me you were fucking two men. Maybe I should get one of the guys to join in and then you might be enthusiastic rather than just closing your eyes and letting me take you.”

“Fuck you.”

He laughs and grabs my hair to pull me from the room. The next room he takes me in has a window and a closet in the corner. I think it must be his room. I look around to see if there is anything I can find to hit him with. It needs to be something heavy to knock him out. The only thing in the room is the lamp on the bedside table. I’m going to have to think quickly if I want to do this.

As I sit on the bed, near the lamp, Ricky comes and sits next to me. He grabs the back of my neck and pulls my face to his, then he kisses me. I don’t kiss him back, I never have. He tries to wrestle with me and get his tongue past my lips, but I don’t let him. It makes him angry, and I know that he is going to hit me. As he pushes closer to me, I reach out and grab the light, I only have one chance to do this.

Before he even notices what I’ve done, I smash the lamp into the side of his head. He goes down, but I hit him again just for good measure. I need him unconscious while I get away.

I see the blood trickly out of his head, but I don’t care. After what he’s done to me, he deserves to die, but I know he’s too stubborn to give up on life that easily, so I can’t wallow. I need to move. And quick.

Opening the drawers and closet, I find some clothes, including a jumper, but no coat. Out of the window I can see the snow falling fast and know that I could freeze to death, but I need to get out of here so badly that I don’t care.

I manage to open the window, climb out and close it again before running towards the wooded area. Hopefully this will take me into town.

I don’t know what I’m going to do when I get to town, but I need to find someone who will let me use the phone so that I can phone my guys. I need them to come and get me, but with the snow that’s falling I know that might be impossible. That means that I could be hiding out for a few days before I see them, all the while avoiding the Black Stallions MC and Ricky.

Keeping off the main road, because I know the two trucks will be coming back to the house soon, I stay in the woods. It’s dark in here, but I’m not scared, not after what I’ve been through recently. I hear some voices and move towards them. It’s two women, chatting. I must be getting closer to town. I don’t let myself be known and they are only talking about the weather.

“I heard they will be closing the mountain soon.” One of them is shaking her head.

“I know. The town is stocked up so we should be fine. Hopefully, it might only be for a few days.”

Shit. That means that I’ll be on my own. Do I interrupt these women and scare them? No, I don’t want to bring them into the middle of my shit.

Walking past them, I stick to the woods and the fields until I see more of the town opening up to me. I think it’s a Sunday as there are lots of people coming out of the church. That means that not much will be open in town. Shit.

As I get closer to the town, I walk through the streets, looking at all the shops that are closed. Then I see some movement. The hotel. They’ll help me.

Walking into the warmth of the hotel makes me realise how cold I am. I’m shivering. I’m soaking wet and I’m tired. I know I must look a sight because the receptionist is staring at me, and I know she’s thinking she needs to ring the police.

“I. I. I need a room pppplease.” The heat in the reception hurts my cold bones.

“I’m sorry we don’t have any rooms left. We’re fully booked. There’s a snowstorm.”

“No. No. No shit sherlock.” Seriously, I’ve been walking in this snowstorm for the last couple of hours. “Can I use a phone?”

“Do you have any money? There’s a payphone down the hall.” She looks at me and I’m sure her nose turns up.

“I don’t have any money.” I move closer to the reception desk. “Listen to me. I’ve been kidnapped, raped and I’ve managed to escape, all I want to do is to use a phone or get a bed to sleep in. I’m so tired and I need to let my family know that I’m okay.” The tears come. They’ve been a long time coming, but they flow in streams down my face. The receptionist is looking at me and doesn’t know what to do.

She looks behind me and then back down at me, almost apologetically.

Then I hear, “Meg?” Fuck, he’s found me.

Chapter 5

Cash

“Here’s the hotel. Thank fuck we came when we did. If we’d waited for Razor’s word, then we wouldn’t have been able to make it through the mountains.”

“I know. We need to get into the room, lay out the map, find out where she is and get our woman back.”
