Page 16 of His Human to Chase

Yril pushes me in front of himself slightly before introducing us to one another like we aren’t keenly aware of who the other is. “Toron, this is my mate, Skylar. And Skylar, this is my brother. My blood.”

Toron’s eyes soften for a moment, but his teeth grind over one another. His eyes stare daggers at the hallway where Alice went walking down before returning the same cold gaze to his brother. “She agreed to wear my tunic before you ruined that.”

I flatten my lips and give Yril a slap on the arm. “Apologize.”

Yril huffs out a soft laugh but turns to his brother. “I apologize for being an angry male. Now, strip from your shirt. Skylar will take it to your mate.”

Toron wastes no time yanking his tunic over his head and handing it over to me. I don’t know why he didn’t just strip from his shirt in the first place, but I don’t bother to ask. If the two are willing to get along after almost killing one another earlier, I’ll do whatever they need so they don’t start duking it out again.

“I’ll be right back,” I give Yril a squeeze of his bicep and wait for him to give me a soft nod before I scurry off down the hallway and toward the door Alice slipped inside not too long ago.

I barely have time to tell Alice whose tunic it is before Olivia, the tribe leader’s mate, asks if Yril and I can meet with her and Ralleth for a moment to discuss what exactly happened out in the woods yesterday. Blood drains from my face at the realization that I actually need to talk about it, but I nod and tell her we’ll be ready to talk whenever they want.

That’s how I end up in Ralleth and Olivia’s room with Yril standing right behind me. He keeps a possessive hand on my shoulder, holding me close and making sure I know he’s there with me. Ralleth asks Yril if he’s been injured when he sees the swollen lip and the darkened scales that apparently did bruise from my bite on his neck. Yril beams at him like he’s showing off his most prized possessions and tells Ralleth he was not injured even slightly. Ralleth nods and sends Olivia a confused look before she shakes her head, a bright blush covering her cheeks.

“I’ll explain later, my Ralleth,” Olivia chuckles as she says it and gives me an apologetic look.

“Very good,” Ralleth crosses his arms in front of his chest, not caring that we’re all slightly laughing at him and his naivety. “Which of you wants to tell us what happened first?”

I explain first, knowing that it will be hardest for Yril to hear me say it because I know I’m going to cry at least a little bit. I tell them how I ran from the safety building naked because I thought we were doing some fun sex stuff. Instead of being caught by Yril, three other demons stepped out of the trees and surrounded me. I screamed, and before I could take off back to where I came from, one of them grabbed me and held me around the waist while the other two taunted me. I skim over the gory details of what they said, what they did, and how Yril killed them. I definitely skip over how vicious Yril was and how he was willing to torture a man for harming me in any way.

Yril explains next, his hand holding me tighter as he tells them exactly how he saw it happen. He doesn’t skip over the gory details of what he did. He doesn’t tell them what the demons said to me or where they touched me. I’m grateful for that, but I wish he would’ve offered himself the same kindness when he tells them how he was on the verge of gutting the man and leaving him barely alive for the creatures of the night to feast on. Then he lets it slip that he failed me as a mate by not keeping me safe from all dangers.

His hand tenses on my shoulder even more like he’s trying to take back the words he just let slip.

“You killed three men before they could harm her, yes?” Ralleth looks me over again like I might be hiding a serious injury somewhere.

“I did,” Yril rubs his horn.

He doesn’t want his inner thoughts known to us, but he messed up and told us, so now he’s going to get an earful from his leader, probably Olivia, and definitely me. My mate came in like a menacing demon of death and slaughtered all of the men who thought to harm me. I don’t know how he can think he failed when it was my fault. It happened because I ran away from him without checking to make sure it was safe.

“Then you protected her well enough,” Ralleth waves his hand in the air as though it will make Yril feel better. It’s all that matters since I’m safe, but Yril is still figuring that out.

“You kept my sister safe,” Olivia steps up and puts a hand on Yril’s forearm.

My lips pull back in a snarl which has an amused look flicker in everyone’s eyes as I apologize. It’s not just the warriors that get possessive over their mates. No, I’m territorial over my demon, and if no one is allowed to touch me, then no one is allowed to touch him, either. Olivia continues, forcing the smile from her face at my obvious jealousy. “Do you remember when I was first brought here? I was attacked too. None of you would say Ralleth could not keep me safe, would you?”

Yril looks like someone has slapped him, and I’m gawking at Olivia, saying something similar happened to her. “He protected you as best he could and banished those males.”

“Then hold yourself to the same standard you give your leader.” Olivia squeezes his forearm. “You protected her as best you could, and you killed the males responsible.”

Yril grinds his teeth together, but the tears on his lower lids shine and tell us that he’s taking Olivia’s words seriously. He gives her a single nod before turning to me and giving me a pleading look. I want my mate right now so I can show him just how much he didn’t fail me, and I think he needs it more than anything right now, too.

His eyes stay latched on me as he asks Ralleth, “Is there more you need from us?”

Ralleth pauses for a long moment. So long that I give him a side look. I want to comfort my demon and tell him he protected me and kept me safe, and he needs to not beat himself up over what happened because he didn’t let anything happen to me that I can’t get over. Ralleth is smiling as he looks between us but doesn’t dismiss us until Yril starts to hiss at him.

“Treat him well,” Ralleth says to me as we make our exit from their rooms.

Another male is waiting on the other side. Yril snaps at him as he pulls me closer to his side. The other male shakes his head before pushing into Ralleth and Olivia’s room and letting the door close loudly behind him. I don’t know who he is, but he apparently has business with Ralleth, too.

“You’re in trouble.” I give Yril a pointed look that I’m hoping tells him just how unhappy I am with what he thinks of himself. Instead, he’s beaming at me like he’s a proud male instead of one who just lets it slip that he doesn’t think he’s good enough for me.

“I’d like more claiming marks as punishment.” He wraps an arm around my waist as he herds me back to the bedroom, and when he positions me on top of him, I forget what it was I wanted to be mad at him about and work on bruising him all over with my teeth.

Yril

Iwould never have thought that a human female’s blunt little teeth would feel so good, but here I am, lying on my back as my little floof bites down on my shoulder so hard I know she is going to bruise me and let everyone know who I belong to. I cradle her head with one of my hands, begging her to bite harder as my cock twitches against my thigh. The only thing that could make this better is if my mate was tall enough that I could bury myself in her as she bit down on me all over.
