He didn't react but I did.
Within seconds, I'd swiveled in the seat, straddling him, my knife out and pressed against his neck.
He immediately reacted, pressing the gun in his hand against my neck, and we stared each other down.
I grinned, feeling a little bit crazy as I stared into his cold blue eyes.
“The choice before you is easy, Nero. You kill me now and then you'd be in even deeper shit with Nicholi. Or you could fulfill your end of the contract and I'll put on my wedding dress and marry you tomorrow." I no longer needed the information he was supposed to give me, but what I did need, was to stall for more time. I also needed him to check his bank accounts. "I'd be happy to walk down the aisle with the richest man this side of the world." I leaned closer, pressing the knife into his neck enough to nick his skin, and the smell of blood filled my nostrils. I hovered close to his face, so close I was almost kissing him, and whispered, "Give me what I want and I will be the one to fuck you on this desk, right here in front of Dante." I smiled, showing my teeth. “Who knows? He may like it."
Nero laughed, the sound cold and chilling, but he lowered his gun, shaking his head. "You girl." He pointed a finger at me. "I can tell I'm going to need to keep an eye on you."
I blinked my eyes innocently. "You know you love it."
Still chuckling, he nodded again. "Finally, a woman who really knows what a man wants." Still keeping the gun in his hand, he twisted me around to face his desk. "Now, let's get this over with. I can kill two birds with one stone. I will show you what you want, and can pay that Russian idiot at the same time."
There was a knock on the door but Nero ignored it. Using his fingerprint, he woke his computer, then tapped quickly, putting his hand over my eyes when it came time to put in his username and password.
Then he made a choking, growling noise, his hand falling away. "What the fuck is going on."
I saw his 'zero' balance before he shoved me off his lap and onto the floor. I hid my smile, my face turned towards the floor as he began to curse. "What the fuck?”
There was a moment of silence as I got to my feet.
"Are you okay?" I pretended to care, though inside, I was elated.
The knock at the door became more insistent.
“What?” Nero roared.
There was a moment of silence, then the knob turned, and Nero’s secretary walked in.
“Sir, the auditor. He’s still here. He’s been waiting for hours, and he refuses to leave.”
“Fuck!” Nero exploded. He stood, his hands going to his shirt, unbuttoning it. “Get me a new shirt.”
LaShana ran to obey him, and, if she noticed the blood on his shirt, didn’t act surprised.
"Dante, get Aster the fuck out of here, and tell those men to get back to their house. I don't need anyone to guard me in my own office."
For the first time since I'd met Nero, he showed true fear; the panic on his face was clear.
"And take her to my room. Don't let her leave." Nero growled, then jerked off his shirt, shoving it in LaShana’s arms.
"I'll be waiting," I smirked. He only grunted and I left with Dante, who was barking at the Bratva men standing outside Nero's office door to leave.
Now that we were out of the office, Nero gave in and lost his shit. He cursed and screamed, making crashing noises, as Dante and I grinned, quickly leaving.
Nero was a dead man walking.
