“Yes, I usually give Ethan one task to do a week that will help him improve. So you two get a joint task this week — go on a date.”
“A date? Really?” Ethan said.
“Yes. I strongly feel you two should try dating again. Not acting like you’re starting over, you’re too entrenched in each other’s lives for that. But dating is a good way to build back up to where you want to be. And now that you have the tools for effective communication, I hope that it’ll help you develop a stronger relationship.”
They glanced at each other, hope shining clearly in their eyes. “I hope so too,” Ethan murmured.
Sarah and Chauncey showed them out, and the two stopped in the parking lot, still holding hands.
“So, a date, huh?” Brandon said with a smile.
“Can I take you out tomorrow night?” Ethan said.
Brandon leaned forward to touch his lips to Ethan’s. “Absolutely.”
CHAPTER 20
“MICHELLE, I NEED help.”
Michelle didn’t turn from her computer. “With what? I’m kind of in the middle of something.”
“I need date clothes.”
Her head whipped around as she turned in her chair. “I’m sorry, what now?”
Brandon sighed. He knew she wasn’t going to make this easy. “I need clothes. To wear on a date.”
“Who are we going on a date with?” she said neutrally.
“Ethan.”
“Oh thank God,” she said, jumping out of her chair. “You finally got your head out of your ass!”
“Excuse you?”
“I knew you’d do it at some point, but man, you really waited.” She grabbed her phone.
“Who are you texting?”
“Steven. We have a bet going on this.”
“You bet on my love life?” Brandon tried to summon some outrage over this, but couldn’t really be bothered. “Okay, what was the bet?”
“I bet you’d cave by December. Steven thought you’d last until May.”
“What were the stakes?”
“None of your business,” she said with a wag of her eyebrows.
“Gross.”
“Okay, date, need more info. Go.”
Brandon explained about his session with Ethan and his therapist, how Ethan had been the first one to admit he wanted to get back together, and the homework Sarah had given them.
“I asked him if I could plan our date, so now I want to make it perfect. And for that, I need decent clothes.”
“We just went shopping for clothes not that long ago, didn’t we?”
