He gives me a sexy grin. “For you to realize that you love me and can’t live without me. That you need me and my body. And that no one else can give you what I can.”

I roll my eyes, even as my heart flips in a way it never has before. “You’re not the waiting type.”

“I wasn’t before you.”

“I’ve been in your life for a year,” I point out. “Why now? The sex can’t be that good.”

He grabs his heart and gasps dramatically. “You wound me, Sadie.”

“I meant the sex can’t be that good for you. For me, it’s incredible. The best I’ve ever had.”

“The best you’ve ever had so far. I have plans for us, Sadiecakes.” He backs me against the counter.

“What exactly does that mean? Sexual plans?”

“Sex is always on the table. When you’re ready.” He lifts me onto the counter and moves between my thighs. “I said I’d wait. I mean it.”

My breathing turns shallow as heat and energy radiate through my body. His touch undoes me, his undivided attention even more so. Still, I ask again, “Why?”

“Because there’s no place else I want to be. There’s no one else I want to be with. I was too dense to realize what that means. What everything about us means. You and I fit, Sadie. In all ways, we fit. I never had that with anyone before. Because they weren’t you. You said it yourself, we were destined. Written in the stars.” He takes my chin and brushes my bottom lip with his thumb. “And because I love you.”

My breath catches and tears burn my eyes. “I didn’t think you’d ever fall in love.”

Another sexy grin. “See what you do to me?”

“You love me?” I whisper, unsure.

“And lucky me, I get to spend the rest of my life showing you just how much.”

He bends to kiss me.

I lean away, cold panic slicing through me. “I’m sorry. I’m scared. I’ve been hurt so much lately. I’d never recover from losing you.”

“Oh, baby.” He kisses my forehead. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll stay right here, wedged between your sweet thighs if you let me. I know it’s hard to believe, but all I can do is tell you what’s in my heart and what I’ve realized I can’t live without. You.” He kisses my nose. “My sweet, Sadiecakes.” He kisses my eyebrow. “My little spank kitten.”

I giggle.

He kisses my other brow. “My best friend. My everything.” He tilts my chin. “May I kiss you? Nothing more. Just a kiss. You can say no.” The words are a whisper across my lips.

How can I say no to him? He’s everything I want, and he’s offering to be mine. What am I waiting for? I close my eyes. “Easton?”

“Yes?”

“I love you.”

He exhales and chuckles. “I was starting to wonder.”

“You can kiss me now.”

With that, his lips meet mine with a tender kiss—a kiss I didn’t think he had in his deliciously sexy body. “I’m going to screw up sometimes. Don’t hate me for it. And don’t run. But, if you do, I’ll catch you.”

I put my arms around his neck and slide close to him, more at peace than I’ve been in a long while.

“I promise not to run…too far,” I tease.

His eyes spark with light. “That kind of talk will get you a spanking.”

“Promise?”
