“You know,” I said, waiting as his hazel eyes turned back to me. “You’re pretty easy to get along with when you’re not being a cocky rich boy.”

He laughed, the low sound making a heat flood through me. “Really? I guess I could say the same to you when you’re not running around biting ankles.”

I didn’t even respond, just reached over and pushed until he was sliding off the car.

“I’m going to start kicking your ankles every time you say that name.”

“Then I’m going to start buying you something every time you call me a rich boy,” he said, coming up in front of me.

“I feel like you think that’s a threat, but telling someone you are going to buy them gifts really isn’t as mean as you seem to think it is.”

I watched as his shoulders straightened and hands flexed. He stepped closer, putting his hands on my knees and spreading my legs until he could step between them.

“I just bought you a car, and had a conversation where I was apparently not a dick, so I think I at least deserve more attention than him.”

“I will give you that. Is he still looking?”

Chases nodded, his eyes darkening as a small smirk came across his lips. “You kind of look like you want to kiss me,” he said.

“I kind of look that way because I kind of do, but I can’t.”

As if the world wanted to remind me one more time that this was a bad idea, and I shouldn’t have agreed, the crew came over.

“What would you guys think about getting out of here and going to grab something to eat all together instead tonight?” Fox asked.

Ash smiled. “I think that’s a great idea.” She came up, throwing an arm around Chase. “You disappeared. Your date already left.”

He laughed and started walking to Fox’s car with her. “I think I’ll survive. Not my type, anyway.”

“Really? Alright then, you’re going to have to tell me your type, so next time you at least talk to the girl.”

“Or you could give me a hundred question questionnaire,” Jax said. “Really, you should just do a full interview.”

“That’s not a terrible idea. There has to be some sort of online quiz.”

Chase groaned, and she laughed. “Or you can let me stay single and I’ll let you know if I suddenly need a girlfriend.”

“Fine, I guess that’s fair,” Ash said, shaking her head. “Are you coming with us?”

He smirked as he threw an arm around her and looked at me. “Yeah, I think I’ll survive a few more hours with you guys.”

“We will see about that. Come on. I’m starving and we need to get to the diner before I faint,” Ash said.

I rolled my eyes, but my growling stomach seemed to agree.

Chase smiled, falling back until he was walking next to the guys, but I didn’t miss when his eyes met mine.

Messy feelings and complicated agreement aside, I was already looking forward to whatever plans he had for his tongue tonight.

TWENTY

SCOUT

Twenty minutes later,we walked into the diner, the entire crew already in such a good mood and I was feeling it, too.

Chase didn’t hesitate to sit down next to me, his confidence shining through on everything he did, including this, and leaving no one to question him.

We ordered, neither of us saying a word to each other, and I was currently preferring it that way. My mind was still going over what he wanted to do and my own surprise at how much I wanted it to happen. Or at least wanted to know if it would happen.
