My phone vibrated, Chase’s name across the screen.
Chase
Am I going to be set up?
Scout
It sounds like it.
Chase
If I tell her no, is she going to listen?
Scout
Have you met Ash?
Chase
Yeah, good point.
Is this going to cause a problem? I can try to figure a way out of it, if you want.
Scout
Why would I care? If she wants to set you up, she can.
Chase
You don’t care at all?
Scout
I told you, whatever happened ended the minute we left the motel room. It’s fine.
Chase
I feel like that makes this a hard no about fooling around in the hallway.
Scout
Very hard no.
I could hear the small groan escape him, but he didn’t move. Instead, we watched the movie in silence, both of us holding our phones, but not texting more.
It was good. Not letting this go any further was the right thing to do, and after all the wrong choices I had made lately, I needed to make the right choice on this.
I couldn’t let the crew down, and fooling around would cause us all issues when it inevitably went bad. My emotions were all over the place, and the last thing I needed was Chase hanging around with the crew, and me getting feelings for him.
It was the right decision.
If I cut it off now, I could save myself the heartache.
EIGHTEEN
CHASE
The races tonightwere already packed as I pulled in with my new car and angled through the crowd. I was already on edge and only had one thing on my mind. More specifically, one girl who hadn’t texted me backagain.
