Page 64 of Love Collided

Fine, my hands won’t touch you at all tonight…unless you request it

Scout

Thank you.

Chase

Should I also stop texting you my dirty thoughts?

I read the text and set my phone back down, trying to concentrate on the movie again, and not think about thedisappointment of him not touching me. It was my choice, of course, but it didn’t mean I wasn’t disappointed in it not happening.

But I knew it couldn’t. Not really.

Whatever happened with Chase would be short-lived, and then being forced to hang around each other would just be awkward.

Scout

Can you at least not send them now?

Chase

Why? Getting too turned on?

Scout

Maybe I’m just trying to concentrate on the movie.

Chase

I think the movie is boring. Want to give me a tour of your apartment?

Scout

You are terrible.

Chase

That’s not what you were saying the other night.

I rolled my eyes and made a dramatic show of throwing my phone down while looking right at him.

He only smiled and kept his eyes on the TV.

“Hey, Chase,” Ash said. “Are you coming to the races with us tomorrow?”

“Yeah, I was planning on it.”

“Are you bringing anyone with you?” Ash asked. It wasn’t that Ash was wondering on my account. She didn’t know anything had gone on between us. It was just that Ash liked to know everything about everyone’s love life, and the moment she thought she could help set someone up, she would.

Chase’s hand twitched, but he didn’t give any other indication that the question bothered him. “I wasn’t planning on it. Should I be?”

She shook her head. “No, not if you weren’t planning on it. I was just checking.”

“Why?” I asked, keeping my tone as neutral as possible.

She gave a sly smile, but shrugged. “No reason, just asking.” I wanted to ask more, but I worried that any question I had would make it seem like I was invested in Chase’s love life.

And I wasn’t.
