“How are you feeling?”
“Nervous, and happy. Still panicking a little.”
“That’s understandable,” I say. “It’s going to be a great day.”
“I know,” he says. “I can’t believe it’s here. I haven’t let the ring out of my sight since I picked it up. I even slept with the box in my hand. I don’t know who I am anymore.”
I laugh. “You’re a man who’s about to propose to his soul mate. Don’t be too hard on yourself.”
“I guess.”
“Okay, after brunch I’m available all day if you need anything. I’m planning to get to the party early to help even though I know everything is under control. Eliza’s mother and grandmother know how to throw a party better than anyone else I know.”
“Wait, just you?” he asks. “You’re not bringing anyone to the party?”
Obviously, he’s referring to Cam.
“No, I decided yesterday I want the evening to be about Eliza without any distractions,” I trail off.
“What happened? Did the coach do something stupid?”
I hesitate for a few seconds and then blurt out everything.
Mason lets me talk without any judgement or comments about the coach.
“Anyway, it’s not important today. I just want to have fun and not stress about something that’s out of my control.”
“Good idea,” he says.
“Thanks for listening, Mason. Now I need to get ready to take your soon-to-be fiancée to brunch. I can’t wait to hear every detail. You’ve got this.”
I hurry off the phone and jump in the shower. I’m excited for the day ahead, everything else can wait.
Eliza and I are meeting at a yummy restaurant called Sunny Side Café. They have the most fantastic brunch menu with every option you can think of.
I gasp when I see Eliza because she’s absolutely glowing. Maybe she suspects what’s about to happen, or maybe she’s just truly content.
“I’m getting an omelet and French toast,” Eliza says as soon as we’re seated. “And everything—ugh, I forgot how much food they have.”
I giggle. “There’s a reason we only come here on special occasions.”
“Starting next week, we’re going to morning bootcamp, no excuses,” she insists.
“Deal.”
We both study the menu. I don’t mind indulging in honor of this very special day. After we place our orders, Eliza brings up Mason and his plans.
“He told me to dress up, but he didn’t tell me where we’re going tonight.”
I take a sip of water and shrug. “I honestly have no idea. He was very secretive about his plans.”
This is the truth. Mason didn’t reveal any specific location details to me.
She smiles. “I guess he took what you said to heart. He told me he was making this birthday very special.”
“This is all him. The only thing I did was remind him about your birthday.”
Mason deserves all the credit. He organized, planned, and implemented every detail.
