Page 89 of I Think He Knows?

“I haven’t had a chance.” This isn’t true because I’ve had plenty of opportunity to mention the party to Cam.

“Did something else happen?”

I don’t want to get into it again, especially because I’ll have to relive it all over again when Eliza gets here.

“Nope,” I lie. “Anyway, Eliza should be here any minute.”

“Okay. Don’t let her get any info out of you.”

“I won’t.”

Eliza walks in just as I’m getting off the phone. Perfect timing.

“I went a little overboard with the cookies,” she calls.

“That’s not a bad thing,” I tell her. “The funny thing is I was just thinking about that bootcamp class we’re supposed to be doing every morning.”

She cringes. “Ohhh, you’re right. We did buy those packages.”

“The sessions don’t expire for like a year,” I say. “But we were supposed to hold each other accountable.”

She nods. “I guess I need to work on that. What kind of life coach doesn’t keep her own commitments?”

“It’s not your fault. I’m the one who convinced you to do it.”

Our bootcamp discussion is interrupted by our pizza delivery. Go figure.

We don’t waste any time indulging. We chat about school, and she updates me on her own office drama. Admittedly I almost slip and mention the party twice. Thankfully I catch myself in time.

“I know Mason is planning something for my birthday,” she says, breaking one of the large cookies in half.

“If he is, he hasn’t shared anything with me.”

She raises one eyebrow, and I know she doesn’t believe me.

“Speaking of your birthday, I’m taking you to brunch.”

“I love brunch.”

I giggle. “Exactly.”

“And is this brunch connected to some sort of birthday surprise?” she asks.

I shake my head. “No, if it was a surprise, I wouldn’t have told you.”

She frowns.

“Stop asking me. I don’t know anything,” I exclaim.

“Fine. What’s up with Coach Cam? You’ve barely mentioned him tonight.”

“We had a great time at dinner last night, but I didn’t really see him today.”

She gives me a skeptical look.

“You’re still worried about the Lilly thing, aren’t you.”

I sigh. “I don’t want to be. And poor Cam has done everything he can to reassure me, and it’s still not enough.”
