Page 54 of I Think He Knows?

“Anywhere is fine,” I tell him.

He brings the bags, plates, and flatware to the coffee table.

“It’s more comfortable here,” he says, sitting next to me.

“Definitely.”

We chat as we open containers.

“Okay, we’ve got spring rolls, dumplings, sweet and sour pork, kung pao chicken, and the lo mein you requested. I might’ve gone overboard.”

I laugh. “Maybe a little. I only mentioned a spring roll and lo mein.”

“Well, everything sounded good, and I couldn’t decide, so I kept adding to the cart.”

“I’ve done that more than a few times,” I say with a laugh. “Just not with Chinese food.”

We dig into the containers, and Cam insists I try a little bit of everything.

“Wow, you’ll have to tell me where you ordered from,” I exclaim wiping the corners of my mouth with a napkin. “Everything is so delicious.”

“It’s the best in the area,” he says, holding up his chopsticks. “I’ve tested them all.”

We continue to talk as we eat, our conversation never lagging. All the awkwardness of the Lilly conversation from last weekend has vanished, and I couldn’t be happier.

“Do you want to watch a movie?” Cam asks after we finish eating. “I’m sure we can find a good romantic comedy.”

I give him a curious look. “How did you know I love romcoms?”

“You told me,” he says. “We were at lunch one day, and I mentioned one of the Marvel movies. You tried to convince me that romcoms are superior because they make you feel many different emotions.”

I’m speechless. That conversation was such a long time ago. I can’t believe he still remembers.

“Well, it’s true.” I pause. “Although I do like some Marvel movies. I mean—Thor, Captain America. All very entertaining.”

He snorts. “I have to agree, even though I probably enjoy them for different reasons than you.”

I shrug innocently. “I’m not sure what you mean. They’re full of action, suspense, and comedy.

“And the Chrises,” Cam adds.

I laugh. “Yes, them too. But I’m fine with watching a romantic comedy if you are.”

“Absolutely. I’ll just clean up first.”

“Oh, I’ll help,” I exclaim, jumping to my feet.

“You don’t have to,” he says.

“I know, but I want to.”

I wrap up all the leftover food while Cam rinses the dishes and puts them in the dishwasher.

“Is there any update from Leo?” I ask. “Has he mentioned Jess?”

Jess would be furious with me if I don’t at least ask about Leo.

“He asked how she was doing, and I know he’s coming to Celebrate Our School.”
