We say our final goodbyes, and then Cam and I walk out together.

“So, can I pick you up for dinner tomorrow?” he asks, engulfing me in his arms.

My knees go weak as I breathe in his scent. “Yes.”

“Serena, thank you for giving me a chance to prove how I feel about you. I promise you won’t regret it.”

“I know.”

He kisses me three more times before I finally make myself get in my car.

As I drive home, I can’t stop smiling. For some reason, Cam showing up tonight has calmed my fears. I doubt Lilly will give up, but I won’t either. I’ve patiently waited for Cam and me to have a chance. Now it’s happening, and I’m not letting anything, or anyone, stand in our way.

Chapter Twenty-Three

When I wake up, I’m still smiling. Last night was a dream—the party, the engagement, my talk with Cam. I reach for my phone, and I have texts from Cam, Eliza, and my sister.

I click on Kara’s number. I know she’ll be awake because my nephew is an early bird.

“Hi. It’s Sunday, I figured you’d be sleeping in.”

That would be true if it were a normal Sunday. Today feels different.

“I’m too excited to sleep,” I say. “I have a Cam update for you.”

“Ohhh, tell me.” she exclaims.

I don’t waste any time giving her all the details of the past few days.

“Serena, I’m so excited for you,” she squeals. “When do we get to meet Cam? Bring him to dinner.”

I grin. I’m so glad to be able to share these things with my sister. It’s wild how things can change.

“Good idea. I want to introduce him to my adorable little Gavin.”

“Um, what about your fun, cooler older sister?”

“Oh yeah, you and Jason too.”

She laughs. “How about next weekend? Jason can make a delicious dinner. It’ll be fun.”

I smile to myself. My sister is a disaster in the kitchen.

“Well, if Jason’s cooking then it’s a yes,” I exclaim. “At least we’ll have something other than Kraft Mac and Cheese.”

“That’s true.”

“I’ll check with Cam and let you know soon.”

“Sounds good. Love you, sister.”

“Love you, too.”

After we’re off the phone, I don’t rush to get out of bed. I have a few things to do for work, and then I’ll get ready to go to Eliza’s family dinner with Cam. It’s going to be another amazing day.

I have a feeling Coach Cam will be attending a lot of Eliza’s family dinners moving forward. He immediately fits in and spends a lot of the evening talking to Grandma’s friend, who is a retired PE coach.
