Page 82 of I Think He Knows?

I stop scrolling through the pictures and find my sister’s number.

“There you are,” Kara answers. “I was just telling Gavin I haven’t heard from his auntie Serena in ages.”

“Are you talking bad about me to my nephew?” I ask. “You know it won’t work. I’m his favorite person.”

She giggles. “Yes, he loves you very much. Anyway, what’s up with you? Where have you been?”

I give her the rundown of Celebrate Our School and an update on Cam.

“I wish I had been there,” she shouts. “It sounds like Lilly and her mother need to know who they’re dealing with.”

I laugh. I’m still trying to get used to this mama bear version of my sister.

“I don’t know what to do,” I tell her.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, I know Lilly is trying to keep me away from Cam.”

“Yeah, she’s even got her mother involved. She’s playing dirty,” Kara exclaims. “Wait. You’re not thinking of listening to her, are you?”

I sigh. “You should see them all together. It was so uncomfortable, and I felt out of place. I’m not sure I want to deal with that moving forward.”

“I understand why you feel that way.” She pauses. “But Cam wants to be with you, right?”

“Yeah.”

“So, don’t worry about what might happen in the future,” she says. “You’re together now.”

Hmm…I never expected to pour my heart out to Mason and my sister in the same day. I guess it proves anything is possible.

My phone beeps, and I see Jess’s number on the screen. I’m excited to get the scoop about her evening with Leo.

“Kara, I need to grab this other call. Give my sweet nephew a kiss for me.”

I click over to Jess.

“It’s almost eleven,” I say. “I expected to hear from you sooner.”

“I just woke up.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yes, it was a late night,” she says nonchalantly.

I gasp. “Jessica Davidson, I’m shocked.”

“Nooo, nothing happened,” she shrieks. “Leo drove me back to my car, and then we ended up talking for a while.”

“That’s good.”

“Yeah…” She trails off.

“Or not.”

She doesn’t sound as excited about this as I thought she would.

“We had a great time together.” She says. “But I was surprised when he didn’t mention the possibility of seeing each other again. He gave me a hug, and then I left.”
