“I’m sorry I unloaded all of this on you,” he says. “I know the timing isn’t great.”
I shake my head. “It’s okay. I appreciate your honesty.”
He smiles weakly. “You’re easy to talk to. You really listen—at least you give off the impression you’re listening.”
I snort. “Ha. I’m not that good of an actress, trust me.”
“Anyway, we should probably get inside,” he says after he parks. “Leo was hesitant to come at first because?—”
“Because of the whole Eliza situation?” I say knowingly.
“Yeah,” he says. “But he knows Jess requested getting together, so it’s different than when he randomly met Eliza that night.”
“We shouldn’t leave them waiting,” I say. Admittedly I’m grateful for a break in this conversation. It’s a lot to process all at once.
Cam nods, and we head into the restaurant. As soon as we enter, I see Jess and Leo sitting together at the bar. Leo is laughing and Jess looks like she’s in heaven. I forgot how attractive Leo is. He has the greenest eyes I’ve ever seen.
“I guess we’re late,” I say. “Although neither of them seems to be upset about it.”
“Not at all,” Cam replies.
“There they are,” Jess announces. “We were wondering if you were standing us up.”
“Sorry,” Cam says. “It was my fault.”
Leo pretends to cover his ears. “I don’t need to hear the details of what you were doing.”
“Ohhhh, yes. Give us the details,” Jess swoons.
Cam gets a pained look on his face.
“Hey, Leo,” I say loudly to shift the conversation. “It’s nice to see you again.”
“You as well,” Leo says. “When was the last time? The concert?”
I nod. “I think so?”
Neither of us elaborate because that was the last night he went out with Eliza. Cam and Leo invited Eliza, Mason, and me to a local concert, and it was shortly thereafter Eliza and Mason realized they had feelings for one another. Truthfully, I had so much fun with Cam that night, I was a completely oblivious to anyone else.
“Jess was just telling me about that crazy escape room you all went to today,” Leo says. “I had no idea the place existed.”
I nod. “Yes, leave it to Ariel to find the most random creepy location. I’m beginning to wonder if she has another identity and is only masquerading as an elementary school teacher.”
“That would explain so much,” Jess exclaims.
“It was something else,” Cam admits with a chuckle. “I was afraid for my life.”
“Should we get a table?” I ask. I’m dying to pop into the restroom with Jess so I can give a quick update on the Cam-Lilly situation.
“I’m on it,” Cam says before heading to the hostess stand.
Leo pays for his drink and Jess’s glass of wine.
“I’m going to run to the restroom,” I say, shooting Jess a look. Thankfully she gets the hint and joins me.
As soon as we’re safely away from the guys, she squeals and dances around in a circle.
“Leo is so nice,” she gushes. “Our conversation went so smoothly, and he paid for my drink.”
