I kissed him tenderly before I answered. “I think you have the space to handle that.”
“You deserve a more formal, fancy wedding,” Kaleb said stubbornly. “Maybe a nice destination wedding.”
“Not really my style,” I informed him. “And the planning on that would take a while.”
“Then I’m definitely in on your first suggestion if that’s really what you want,” Kaleb said hastily, obviously not fond of the idea of waiting. “I honestly don’t care how it happens as long as we end up married by the end of it. But I also want you to have the wedding of your dreams.”
I pulled back and looked into his eyes. “Really, all I want is to be married to you. That’s my dream.”
He palmed the back of my head and pulled me in for a very thorough, very passionate embrace.
“And I just want you to be mine,” he said after he finished kissing me. “We’ll all help you plan. You just uprooted your entire life to live here with me. You must be exhausted.”
“Honestly, I’m not,” I shared as I laid my head on his shoulder. “I feel invigorated. Kim once told me that I’d spent my whole adult life living for other people, doing what everyone expected me to do instead of what I wanted to do. I think there was a lot of truth in that statement. Now, I feel like I’m finally doing what I want to do, and I’m doing it with the guy who makes me happy and puts joy in my life. I guess I needed to put my priorities in order, too.”
“I’m going to make damn sure that you never regret that move from California to Montana,” Kaleb said in a graveled voice. “I’ll build you an incredible recording studio in Billings. What will you do about all the technical people and musicians you need to record?”
“I’ll bring them here when I need the technical parts. My producer is ready to come here whenever I need him for an album. Fortunately, he really likes the outdoors.”
“So you’ve been planning this for a while?” Kaleb asked.
I nodded. “Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it. After you told me that you loved me, I figured you wouldn’t mind if I relocated. The final decision happened pretty fast. The longer we were apart, the more miserable I was in California. I probably should have talked to you about it, but once I got things rolling, I couldn’t stop. I didn’t want to have to leave you or Montana for long periods ever again.”
“I told you once that I’m always going to be a sure thing for you,” he said in an amused voice. “I’m sure you knew I wasn’t going to object. How did you end up getting in early?”
“I convinced your jet crew to leave early so I could surprise you. They helped me load up the pilot’s car when I arrived, and he brought me here.”
“I was getting ready to come to the airport,” he informed me. “I needed to be at the bottom of those stairs when you came off the jet. I was miserable without you, too, Anna. My brothers will be glad you’re here to stay. I’ve been a major asshole to everyone.”
“Feeling better?” I joked.
“What do you think?” he asked drily. “You’re here. You’re not leaving, and you’re going to marry me. I’m probably the happiest asshole on the planet right now.”
I sighed as I made circles on Kaleb’s shoulder with my index finger.
I knew I should roll off his warm body, but truthfully, there was nothing better than being naked with him like this.
I liked the intimacy of being skin-to-skin with him. It was going to take me a while to realize that we were finally together and that neither of us were going anywhere anytime soon.
Kaleb was the first to break our contact.
He gently rolled me over, disentangled our tangled bodies, and got out of bed.
“Where are you going?” I asked.
“Disappointed?” he said with a wicked look on his face.
“Yes,” I admitted.
“Don’t go anywhere,” he said in a bossy tone. “Give me a few seconds.”
He went to his walk-in closet and returned in just over a few seconds later.
“I decided I needed to see my ring on your finger right now,” he told me as he got back into bed.
I sat up as he handed me a gorgeous velvet box.
“I’m going to ask that question again,” he cautioned me. “Marry me, Anna?”
