But the intensity of his gaze makes it impossible to ignore him. The man stares at me as he sips his drink, and a huge part of me feels like the night won’t be complete until he walks over here. For some reason, I’m curious about him. Why won’t he come over here and join us?
“You guys don’t like him?” I ask, trying to gauge the situation.
“Oh, no, he’s our best friend. We founded the company with him.”
“Yeah, we just like to pick on him. If you knew him, you’d understand why.”
I laugh, finally taking my eyes off the man.
“So how long have you been in LA?” Ryan asks.
“Is it really that obvious that I’m new here?”
He shrugs. “You came alone.”
“Well, you’re right. I moved here three weeks ago.”
“Alone?”
“Yeah,” I say, completely unafraid to admit it. “I tried to get my best friend to move with me, but she couldn’t leave her job.”
“Where are you from?” Ethan asks, his gaze lingering on my mouth.
“Colorado. You ask a lot of questions.”
“Does that make you uncomfortable?”
“No, not at all,” I say, smiling at him.
“You have a beautiful smile,” he says.
“Thank you.”
My gaze flicks back to the other man, who has yet to join us. He’s looking in the other direction, a thoughtful expression on his face.
I take the opportunity to let my eyes travel down his body, noticing the same leanness as his two friends. He’s well dressed, just like them. I linger on his strong forearms before eventually looking back up at his face.
To my surprise, he’s staring at me again. Our eyes lock, and it feels like my heart skips a beat. Like I’m frozen in place. He lifts a brow, brings his glass to his lips, and takes a sip, eyes never leaving mine.
My pulse quickens, and for the first time tonight, I feel flustered. I force myself to look away, pretending like I want a sip of my drink. I pick up the glass Ethan gave me and bring the straw to my lips.
As I drink, I look from Ethan to Ryan, who are chatting with each other. I feel myself being drawn to both of them, as well as their friend. In fact, I have zero interest in even speaking to anyone else here.
I want a taste of each of these men, no matter how small. And I’ve decided that I’ll do anything to get that. I smile to myself. I have a really good feeling about this.
“Let’s go dance,” I hear myself say. After taking another sip of my drink, I stand up, not waiting to see if they follow me as I walk towards the dance floor.
My confidence surprises me, not because I’m not a confident person, but because it usually takes me a while to be this comfortable with people.
I begin dancing, smiling when I feel hands on my waist. I don’t have to look to know that it’s one of them. Ryan comes into view, and I’m immediately impressed at how good of a dancer he is. I look around at the other men in here. He’s miles better than any of them, and I’m guessing Ethan is, too, though I can’t see him since he’s still behind me.
The three of us dance, and it’s the happiest I’ve felt since moving here. I could do this all night.
After a while, Ryan pulls me towards him and away from Ethan, and I sense a bit of jealousy. I indulge him, running my hands along his chest before turning around and grinding into him.
He leans in, pressing his mouth against my ear so that I can hear him. “You’re such a tease.”
I close my eyes and smile as I press myself into him even harder than before. When I open them, I see Ethan dancing in front of us. His eyes flicker as he watches.
