I think back to our first big success, remembering how good it felt for our hard work to pay off.

“Okay, listen to this one. ‘CitadelSafe has proven itself in the tech industry repeatedly. Their latest cybersecurity software has become the top software preferred by companies who are trying to keep their data safe. We are proud to feature them in our latest issue of Tech Daily,” Ryan read out loud.

“I’ve got hundreds of emails from people looking to interview us about our success,” Logan added.

“No fucking way!” I shouted, seeing the headline on my phone. “TechCrunch just posted about us.”

“Oh, we’re in now,” Logan said, grabbing my phone from me to see it for himself. “Do you have any idea how much traffic they get? Everyone will know about us by tomorrow.”

“We have to celebrate. I mean, really celebrate. We’re going all out tonight.”

“Fuck, yeah, we are. We just became a multi-million-dollar company. Nothing is off limits tonight,” I said.

“Vegas?” Ryan asked.

“I think that’s the most brilliant thing you’ve ever said.”

“Seriously? More brilliant than the idea for this damn company?”

I rolled my eyes. Ryan was still clinging to the notion that this whole thing was his idea because of one thing he said when he was drunk out of his mind in our first year of college. Logan and I have learned to just ignore him whenever he says it.

“Vegas sounds amazing. I say we start packing immediately,” Logan said, saving me from having to argue.

We stayed in Vegas for a whole week. It was probably the most insane week of my life.

Ever since then, our company has been on the rise nonstop. Things haven’t slowed down even a little bit. This year has been the craziest one of all, which is why we barely have the time to go out anymore.

As I look out at the city, I realize something. We’ve got to find a way to lessen our workload without letting the company suffer for it. We need to get out and enjoy our lives again.

What’s the point in owning multiple properties, private jets, and having enough money to vacation anywhere in the world, if we aren’t using any of it?

Mirando pokes her head into my office, holding up a folder. She strolls in, setting it on my desk in front of me.

“Here’s everything you need to know about your meeting today.”

“I thought you already gave me this.”

“I did, but I thought you might like to look over it again. I know how you like to be prepared.”

I glance up at her. Her blue eyes are wide, and her long auburn hair falls over my desk as she leans against it. It’s so obvious why she really came in here. She’s been trying to impress me for months now and not just as my assistant.

Little does she know that I don’t mix business with pleasure. Ever. It’s a lesson I learned very early on in my career. Nothing good ever comes out of it, no matter how good the sex is.

“Thanks, Miranda. Be sure to have fresh coffee in the meeting room for my clients as well as for Ryan and Logan.”

“Will do, boss!” she says before walking out of the room.

An hour and a half later, we finish our meeting. The three of us walk into the elevator that will take us to the lobby.

“So, what do we think? Are they going to invest?” Ryan asks.

“Obviously,” Logan states.

“Have to agree with Logan on this one. They seemed very impressed. I can’t see them not going all in. Which just adds another reason for us to go out tonight. We should celebrate scoring another huge investor.”

Despite our company being hugely successful, investors are still incredibly important to us. Especially with the latest app that we’ve been developing.

The last two weeks have been filled entirely with meetings dedicated to trying to secure the funding we need for it. Of course, we could put our own money into it, but everyone knows that a good businessman doesn’t put up his own money. What would he be left with if it failed?
