“We don’t even know if they’re going to yet,” Ryan notes.
“They left with the coffee cups,” Logan says, shrugging. “Every time they leave with the coffee, they invest. Every time they leave without the coffee, or barely drink it, they don’t invest.”
“You’re the only one who trusts in that theory.”
“And I’m always right. Name one time I’ve been wrong.”
Ryan and I are both silent. I hate feeding Logan’s ego like this, but he really is always right.
“So does this mean you’re coming out tonight?” I finally ask.
“I’ll come over for drinks, but I can’t promise anything else.”
Good enough for me. I’ll convince him later, once he’s had a glass of scotch.
As soon as the elevator opens, we stroll out into the lobby, heading directly to the front doors and walking outside. All three of our cars are already out here, thanks to the valet. I head straight to my matte black Lexus.
Once I reach my place, I let the valet park my car and head to the front door of the building.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Carter,” the doorman says, nodding at me.
“Good afternoon, Benny.” I nod back before entering the lobby.
I make a beeline for the private elevator that will take me right up to my penthouse.
Having a place downtown that was near our CitadelSafe office was super important to me. I have another place in the hills, but I usually only stay there when I have a long weekend.
The elevator opens, revealing my luxury penthouse in all its glory.
Floor-to-ceiling windows line the walls, showcasing a panoramic view of Los Angeles. The place has a pretty open floor plan, with a small kitchen in one corner and a bar in the other. It’s a bachelor pad that would make any man jealous.
As I enter the apartment, the smell of leather and cedarwood floods my senses. I throw my briefcase on a nearby couch, feeling excited for what the night has to offer, something I haven’t felt in quite a while. I enter my room and start undressing, eager for the night’s pleasures to begin.
Just as I’m taking my belt off, my phone starts buzzing. It’s Miranda.
“I’m off for the rest of the weekend. This better be important.”
“Of course, sir. I just thought you’d like to know that your meeting today was successful. They’ve already reached out to us and agreed to invest.”
A huge smile spreads across my face. Now Logan will have no choice but to come out. It’s going to be a good night.

“Oh, thank God you picked up.”
“Of course, I picked up. I’ve been missing you like crazy,” Kayla says.
“Trust me, no matter how much you think you miss me, I miss you more. This place is beautiful, but man is it lonely when you don’t know anyone.”
“You just need to go out and make some friends!”
“You say that like it’s easy.”
“It is! What about work? Haven’t you met anyone you like at work?”
“I’m, like, the only person working there under the age of forty. I can’t relate to any of those people, and anyway, I need them to take me seriously. It’s bad enough that they all look at me like I’m this ditzy twenty-six-year-old who doesn’t know what she’s doing.”
