Ethan rolls his eyes, but his smile remains.
“Oh, yeah? What kind of company?”
“It’s a software company. Cybersecurity.”
“Is it big? Would I know the name?”
“It’s called CitadelSafe,” Ethan tells me, shrugging.
I know the name well. How could I not? But there’s no way these are the guys that own it. There’s just no way.
I pretend like I don’t know what it is. Partly because I don’t want to give them an ego boost, but also, I don’t want them to think I’m only interested in them because of that. If it’s even true.
“I’ve never heard of it,” I say. “But I’m not exactly educated when it comes to stuff like that.”
I look around, searching for a restroom. I spot one at the other end of the club.
“Hey, I’ll be right back,” I tell them, sliding out of my seat and standing. Ethan stands, too, catching my arm with his hand before I can walk away. He leans in close until his lips are touching the shell of my ear.
“Going to Google us?”
Chills run down my spine, and I can feel my face heating up. I look up at him, batting my eyelashes in an attempt to look innocent.
“No,” I say, our eyes still locked.
“Lying to me already?”
I look nervously at Ryan, who’s smirking at me.
“Okay fine, I was going to Google you. But only to make sure that you weren’t lying.”
“Sit back down, Jade,” he says.
I suppress another shiver and sit down, surprised at my willingness to obey him. My teeth scrape across my lower lip, and I feel a sudden burst of excitement coursing through me.
Something tells me that they aren’t lying about the company. Being billionaires would definitely explain the insane level of confidence they exude. Most guys aren’t even confident enough to approach a woman in the first place, let alone whatever this encounter is.
“Now Jade, why don’t you tell us about your work? What do you do?” Ryan asks.
“I work at a marketing agency.”
“LA must keep you busy with clients.”
“It definitely seems like it. But I’ve only been there for two weeks, so it’s hard to say right now.”
“Hey, why don’t I get us some more drinks? You want another?” Ethan asks, interrupting.
“I’d love that.”
He winks at me before standing up and heading back to the bar. I watch him walk, feeling completely shocked at the turn this night has taken. As I stare, I notice a dark-haired man walk up to him. Both of them glance at me before facing forward, and I get the feeling they’re talking about me.
Ethan orders our drinks and continues talking to the man until the bartender brings him three glasses. Once he has them, he dismisses the man and walks back to our table. He sits down across from me, handing me my drink.
“Thank you. Friend of yours?” I ask, nodding my head in the direction of the dark-haired man who is now leaning against the bar and staring at us.
Ethan follows my gaze and nods. “Yep. Don’t worry about him. In fact, just ignore him completely.”
“Yeah, that’s what we do,” Ryan adds.
