“You have meetings tomorrow at eleven, two, and four,” my assistant informs me.
“Thank you, Miranda. And today?”
“You have one in about an hour, but after that, you’re completely free.”
Completely free. I can’t remember the last time I was completely free on a Friday night.
An idea strikes me, one that’s all too good to ignore.
“Miranda? How important is my eleven o’clock meeting tomorrow?”
“It’s with that medical group that wants to buy the latest version of the cyber security software. But they were pretty open when scheduling, so I can probably push the meeting back if you’d like.”
“You know what? Push back all my meetings until Monday.”
“Right away, sir. What about the one that you have in an hour?”
“I’ll take that one. It would be rude to cancel this late.”
Miranda nods before leaving my office. I direct my attention to the window that overlooks practically all of downtown Los Angeles. It’s a beautiful day, one that will lead to an even better night.
I take out my phone and call my two best friends.
“What’s this I hear about you canceling our meetings tomorrow?” Ryan asks as soon as he picks up.
“There’s no way you heard about that already. I literally just did it.”
“Our work calendars are linked. I got a notification as soon as you canceled them.”
“Damn, Miranda’s fast,” I mumble.
“So? Is there something we should know about?” Logan chimes in.
“Actually, yes. Clear your schedules. There’s a new club opening that I thought we could check out tonight.”
“I don’t know, man. If I’ve got a free weekend, I’d much rather go down to my San Diego house. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to go,” Logan says.
“Dude, fuck that. When was the last time the three of us went out together?”
“We went somewhere last weekend.”
“That was a work thing, which doesn’t count. I’m talking just the three of us, like old times. Remember our college days? When we lost track of what day it was?”
“We have a billion-dollar company to run now, times are different.”
“Yeah, exactly,” I say, rolling my eyes. “Which is precisely why we deserve a night out.”
“I don’t kno-”
“Just meet at my place tonight. I’ll be expecting both of you there.”
I hang up before they can say anything else.
Logan, Ryan, and I have been best friends since college, although it’s always felt like we knew each other well before that. The three of us created a tech startup right out of college, and we’ve been working together ever since.
