I swatted his pec and he reciprocated by scooping me up and tossing me on his bed. Once our dinner arrived, we made a picnic on his comfy mattress. We fed each other, and shared our feelings about when our relationship started to feel more than just sex.
After clearing up the empty food boxes and plastic cutlery, I settled in Lorcan's arms and slept on his chest. He didn't let go the entire night. As I walked out of the bedroom in the morning, I couldn't help but stare at his sleeping form and wonder; was he the man who would make me believe in love and fate?

Not even a gruesome morning workout made the blood-and-sex-covered window look any less spine-tingling. I stretched my quads, staring at it in wonder. It was the first time I'd experienced something so hedonistic, yet also…elysian. It felt like a part of me would always belong to him after last night. The way we devoured each other transcended the physical and catapulted us into something more.
I powered the coffee machine, curious as to why there was no sound coming out of the bedroom or shower. Lorcan never skipped his workouts, and I was keen to find out why. I carried the two cups of espresso to the bedroom, his adorable baby snores greeting me as I nudged open the door with my elbow. He was still passed out. Shaking my head with a smile, I placed the coffee on his bedside table and straddled him over the white comforter, running my hands along his soft inky hair.
“Wakey, wakey, boyfriend!” I sang, giggling and smothering his handsome face in kisses.
"Mmm...I like hearing you call me that, baby." Lorcan groaned deeply. "Can your kisses travel a little lower down? There's someone who is hard and eager to meet you."
"Ass." I chuckled, poking him on his broad shoulders and pulling the covers down. "I can’t suck your cock with this burst lip.” I pointed at the swollen pink pout that had other gymgoers staring. “But I’m curious to know why you are still in bed. You are an early bird.”
“I don’t wanna go to the office today,” he grumbled.
“That’s not an answer, Lorcan,” I chided, handing him the cup of coffee.
He groaned something unintelligible. Sliding off his body, I kneeled beside him on the mattress and started massaging his scalp.
“So are you going to tell me what's bothering you today?”
“Oh god, that’s so good, baby. Your fingers are like magic.” He closed his eyes, relaxing against me. "You are a nurturer, just like my mom. Maybe I’ll make you a supermom one day.”
I jerked my hands back as if I’d been electrocuted.
"Why'd you stop?" He cocked his head and peered at me with sad eyes.
Don’t overreact, Tristen. This guy’s sleepy and just making a joke. It’s nothing that serious.
"You’re getting sidetracked. Tell me why you don’t want to go to the office, baby.”
“Walking out of that meeting yesterday was like a primetime news announcement to my execs and my company that nothing mattered more than you.”
My whole body froze at that. Oh no. It was that serious. He had spoken so casually, but every word zapped more adrenaline into my veins than fifty triple-shot espressos. I stared at the back of Lorcan’s tousled head, unable to move, as he raised the espresso and took a sip, unaware of my shock.
“Naturally, Dad won’t let me hear the end of it. And so today, I have to show up to save face. You know what I mean?"
I heard and understood what Lorcan said, but the simple answer to his question was stuck in my throat as my mind replayed over and over, "Nothing mattered more than you."
"Babe, you okay?” Lorcan asked, reaching for me and lifting me onto his naked thighs. “You went all quiet on me. Is something wrong? Talk to me.”
“It-it’s what you just said,” I stammered, afraid of saying the words that could change the course of our lives. “You said nothing else mattered more than me.”
His gaze turned earnest as he pinned my chocolate twirls behind my ears and cupped my face. “Because it is true. You are mine. And I will always fight for you. I don't want to exist if you are not the reason for it. I want my days to begin and end with you.”
Fuck.
My heart went frantic. This wasn’t what was supposed to happen. He wasn’t supposed to fall this deep. Not from a few weeks' fling and a single date.
“I—”
Lorcan silenced me, brushing his thumb across my lips in a tender gesture. He pulled me close to his chest until we were sitting like a lotus flower. Our hearts were beating as one. Our breaths were for each other. There was no distance, no space for walls between us.
“I love you, Tristen Morgana,” he breathed. “I am out of the depths of my fucking mind in love with you.”
