Luke laughed but it turned into a hacking cough. “Yeah. He sure is.”

“So, what do we do now?”

“We have to get back to Abigail,” Luke answered immediately. “And we have to do it together.”

At least we’re on the same page about this,Dominic thought gratefully.

Over the next several minutes, Dominic forced himself to sit up. He could see through the slits of his swollen eyes, though his vision was hazy, and he groaned when he looked down at himself. His upper body was blue from being kicked. He did not doubt that the beating had continued even after he had lost consciousness.

When he looked over at Luke, the other alpha didn’t appear much better.

In fact, Luke seemed slightly worse. Christian had probably landed a kick or two after Luke lost consciousness. The fucker.

“We need to get out of here,” Luke murmured and Dominic dragged himself over to sit next to the other alpha.

The basement they were in was cold, the chill sinking into his muscle and bone.

“How?” Dominic’s head was ringing from pain, and the temp wasn’t helping.

“Tonight. When the guard falls asleep.”

“Okay. Deal.” The two alphas shook hands but pulled away from one another when they heard footsteps.

“Ah, you’re awake.” Dominic stiffened at the sound of Christian’s voice.

He wasn’t afraid of the man, but he didn’t want a repeat of what had happened to them.

Besides, Christian seemed very erratic. He was clearly going feral, but the process seemed to be accelerated in him.

“I really enjoyed the show you boys put on for me.” Christian peered through the bars of the gate that kept them locked in the basement.

Dominic knew sneering at the man would be futile. And it wasn’t as though he could move most of his face anyway.

“What are you going to do with us?” This question came from Luke, whose voice was hoarse and low.

Christian laughed his manic laugh again. “I am getting everything I want, my boy,” Christian bit down on an unlit cigar. “I am getting Abigail, and I am getting rid of you both in one fell swoop.”

“What do you want with Abigail?”

There was a vacant look in Christian’s eyes as he spoke. “She’s mine. She always should have been. I’m taking back what always should have been mine. All of it.”

Dominic stared at Luke and his father. There was something very wrong with Christian. He truly was going feral.

“Father, you don’t have to do this.”

I suppose begging is better than nothing,Dominic thought hazily.

“It’s already decided. And don’t think about trying to escape,” Christian continued. “I have betas as around-the-clock security.”

He’s crazy but he ain’t stupid.Dominic tried to sit up, but he failed immediately, as his arms gave out beneath him.

Christian continued rambling although Dominic didn’t catch most of it as a wave of dizziness washed over him.

How much longer can I go on?

Dominic tried to picture Abigail, tried to form her image in his mind, so he had something to hold on to as he lay back down. Blood dripped from his nose, but as he lay back down, it ran down his throat. He coughed again, nearly choking.

“He’s gone.” He heard Luke saying what seemed like hours later. However, when he opened his eyes, he knew it could only have been minutes.
