Right then, Dominic cursed himself for not having said a proper goodbye to her before he left. She had been awake, lying on her side and facing away from him, but the tension in the room had made him feel as though she were already anxious for his return before he had even left.

Luke hadn’t even had a chance to say goodbye to her.

Dominic let out a low growl, ignoring the giggling laughter that escaped Christian. He would be getting back to Abigail, no matter what it took. And he’d have to get Luke back, too, because he knew how much she cared about him. She would never forgive Dominic if he went home alone.

The betas attacked then. Maybe they could read minds. At this point, Dominic wasn’t going to shoot any theory down, no matter how crazy. He dropped low as three of the betas attacked him at once. He growled more loudly as he forced his hands to become claws and then scraped and clawed at their legs. They yelped and staggered backward and Dominic kicked out at them, driving them away further.

Luke was doing the same thing next to him, and Dominic was almost relieved when he saw how easily the betas fell.

I am an alpha, after all.

We both are.

Never forget that.

But even an alpha had to admit when things weren’t looking up. And right then, Dominic thought, things had never looked more dire.

How many fucking betas does he have on his side?

He swiped and punched and kicked. Because no matter how many they put down, it seemed that two more popped up.

Luke yelped then, high-pitched and painful, and when Dominic looked over at him, he saw that blood flowed freely from the other alpha’s arm. The distraction of looking at Luke’s injury caused him blood of his own because right then, he took a punch to the face. The blow to his head nearly knocked him off his feet. His head was ringing as he stumbled backward into a wall of betas.

And all the while, the fight was fought to the sound of Christian’s mad giggling laughter.

At least we put a good number of them down,Dominic thought as he was punched in the face again and again.

He was quite sure they had even killed a few of the betas.

But it didn’t matter, because they were outnumbered and overpowered.

The next blow, Dominic thought, would knock him unconscious.

He wasn’t wrong.

* * *

Dominic’s mouth was full of blood when he woke.

At first, he thought it had to be night time because of how dark it was, but then he realized that he couldn’t see because his eyes were swollen shut. He was lying supine, his arms and legs spreadeagle.

He turned his head slightly to the side, but the movement was enough to make him howl with pain.

“You’re awake.” The mumbled words came from Luke.

Dominic couldn’t see Luke, and the sound of his voice didn’t help in locating him.

He coughed and spat up some blood before forcing his eyes to open.

It was painful, and liquid rolled down from his eyes before splashing onto his torn shirt. He wasn’t sure if the liquid was water or blood. He wasn’t sure if it mattered any longer.

“Where are we?” Dominic croaked the words out when he could finally speak.

“In the basement of the pack house,” Luke answered. His voice was pained, and Dominic had a feeling he wasn’t the only alpha in the room with severe injuries.

“This place has been abandoned forever, but apparently my father has decided it would be better suited to being a prison.”

“Nice guy, your dad,” Dominic rasped. He couldn’t even inject any sarcasm into his voice.
