Page 66 of Hunted

Abigail felt the leg break in her mouth underneath her teeth.

The wolf was too breathless to screech with pain as Abigail dug her claws into its chest and watched blood gush from the wolf’s chest cavity.

She didn’t wait for the wolf to go still. Abigail knew it was dying.

All she did was turn away and help up the young wolf—a foolish teenager who had tried to fight.

She had made sure the young wolf was safe when the fighting from the front caught her attention.

She identified her alphas right away. Dominic and Luke were fighting viciously, and they were winning.

A thrill of happiness went through her.

Maybe we can win this, she thought.

Maybe we can actually win.

The hope barely had a chance to spark. She was headed back to the rear of the compound when three wolves leaped out at her from nowhere.

They were large, much larger than her, and they growled, their canines shining in the moonlight.

She growled right back, aware that she was outnumbered and overpowered.

Would anyone notice her?

Would anyone notice that she was being attacked?

Would anyone come in time?

Abigail growled more loudly, hoping either Dominic or Luke would hear her above the fray.

But the wolves around her barked with laughter before shifting back to their human forms.

One of them had his arms around her middle before she could move and lifted her into the air.

Abigail couldn’t shift back to her human form and was helpless in that position.

They carried her away easily, into the darkness of the outskirts of the compound.

And she was quite sure no one had seen her.

Fear paralyzed Abigail as they tied her up, and one of the wolves lifted her onto his back.

She began yelping and barking, hoping that just one of the Moonstone wolves would hear her.

“She’s too noisy.” They spoke among one another. “Keep her quiet.”

She saw the rock coming down on her head.

The first blow didn’t send her skidding into unconsciousness. The second one didn’t either.

But the third one did, and she felt herself drift away from the living world.

Her body went limp before she lost consciousness entirely.

Then, the wolves were just carrying an unresponsive wolf away from the Moonstone pack compound, and with the battle still raging the departure went unnoticed. They didn’t even have to run.
