Bert had transformed into one of the largest wolves she had ever seen aside from Luke and Dominic, and when he saw the shock in her eyes, he huffed at her as though he was laughing at her.
Most of the fighting was localized around the entryway to the Moonstone pack territory. But several of Christian’s betas had gotten through and were prowling around the edges of the compound.
The children,Abigail thought with a jolt.
She growled at Bert and the two of them turned and raced back to where Esme sat.
The woman stood with her shotgun in hand, and Abigail and Bert flanked her as the wolves headed directly toward them.
They could probably smell the fear of the children,Abigail thought.
They want to get the easiest targets out of the way first.
A low growl escaped her as her wolf grew angry at the thought of anyone attacking their pups.
No one touches my pups, she thought as the wolves leaped.
Esme took two of them out before she had to reload.
Abigail and Bert pounced together and rolled underneath two of the wolves who had attacked them.
Abigail didn’t wait to show off any of the things she had learned during her training sessions. She just did what Dominic had shown her and went straight for the neck. Her jaw wasn’t very large, but she managed to secure her teeth around the wolf’s neck before clamping down and shaking its body.
Blood spurted into her mouth as the wolf went limp.
Bert was similarly killing a wolf beside her with ease.
Two shotgun blasts went off, and two more wolves fell.
“That’s all of them,” Esme shouted. “Now you get back to the front. Make sure everyone is safe.”
Abigail and Bert barked their acquiescence and then leaped away from the cabins. They parted ways, as he went to join the fight in the front. She knew neither of her alphas would want her to join the fight unless she absolutely had to or was defending herself.
It would just draw Christian’s attention to her, and no one wanted that. She remained on the edge of the compound again and found two younger wolves, teenagers, who hadn’t gotten the memo.
She had no time to get them to Esme at the back of the compound without being seen, so she herded them into one of the cabins.
Abigail snaked her way through each of the cabins and found several more wolves who had chosen not to fight but were paralyzed by fear.
She helped them get to safety as quickly as she could.
Then yelping drew her attention.
What is that?she thought, anxiety flooding her body as she tried to remain in the darkest parts of the territory.
Someone from the Moonstone pack was hurt.
The wolf, the person, whoever they were, was being attacked. The sounds of their small yelps and whimpers sent cold shivers running down Abigail’s spine while her wolf let out an angry growl.
She headed toward the source of the sounds and turned a corner to find one of the Crimson Claw wolves leaning over a young wolf.
He’s torturing her!
For a moment, Abigail couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think.
And then she pounced.
She leaped with such force that she knocked the wolf clean off its feet before she sank her teeth into one of its forelegs.
