The healer was nowhere to be found, and though Abigail had her doubts, both men could walk. They left the infirmary and headed for the pack house.

The Moonstone territory was quiet.

“We need to come up with a plan of attack. Christian is coming for you. He basically told us his plans.” Luke spoke as they slowly made their way out of the infirmary.

“Yes. And we need to do it now,” Dominic added.

Abigail looked at both of her alphas. “What do you suggest?”

After twenty minutes of talking, Abigail, Dominic, and Luke had come up with a plan.

“So, we’ll increase security patrols around the perimeter of the territory at all times. Abigail, you will train to learn how to protect yourself, but you’ll also have a guard on you at all times if you’re not with us.”

“And, we’ll have a wolf stationed at the entryway to the national forest, hidden away. They’ll be able to see or smell anyone coming and send us a signal, giving us enough time to prepare.”

“I can’t believe this is happening,” Abigail whispered.

“You better believe it,” Dominic said grimly. His eyes were hard. “Because Christian won’t stop until he’s dead.”

“And you’re okay with that?” Abigail asked Luke.

He shrugged. “He stopped being my father the moment he hurt my mate.”

Just then, both men winced.

“Okay, enough of this,” Abigail said forcefully. “You’re going back to the healer. And you’re doing it now! And don’t argue with me!”

We need to win.

And even if we don’t win, Christian has to lose.

The words repeated in Luke’s head as the healer checked him and Dominic out once more.

The Moonstone pack territory was quiet with no sounds of children playing or laughing outside. And there was no chatter from the teenagers and older wolves. Everyone knew they prepared for war. It was no time for frivolity

But for Luke, the Moonstone pack was feeling more and more like home to him with every new day he spent there. Yes, he missed his pack, and he missed his role as alpha, but he was grateful he had received asylum in a pack that accepted him, even if it had taken a while.

Luke and Dominic—who Luke had started calling Nic—had healed after a full day of being back home, back in the Moonstone pack territory.

And that was when the preparations truly began.

Luke was acutely aware that they didn’t have a lot of time before his father came for Abigail.

On the morning after the healer had allowed them to leave the infirmary completely, Dominic and Luke spoke to the Moonstone pack betas and soldiers.

“We’ll be doubling security around the perimeter of the pack territory.” Dominic was doing the speaking, but Luke was with him, standing with arms crossed over his chest, resolute by his side.

“We want scouts patrolling the forest of the national park at all times in a five-mile radius. That way, you can alert us the minute you see them coming. That gives us five miles to prepare.”

The betas and soldiers nodded.

One of the betas caught Dominic’s eye, wanting to speak. “We’ll need more bodies.”
