“He's just trying to help.”

“I have to keep the Pack safe too. I'm sorry. If it was anyone else, I would have shot her on the spot or banned her from my territory. It was terrifying. Witch or not, she has a form of control over our unmated males the likes of which I've never seen before. We'll get through this and find a way to control it,” he assured me.

I growled in frustration, but none of them took it personally.

“It's going to be okay, Em. We've got your back,” James assured me.

With the final list of stuff needed for the repairs, Austin volunteered to go shopping in town to acquire what we needed.

And while Thomas made some calls to Clay and Wyatt, I headed back inside to check on the girls.

I found her and Lily still in the bedroom.

“She won't come out of the closet or shift and talk to me, so I've just been talking to her instead.”

“Hey, it's okay,” I said in what I hoped was a soothing voice. “You can come out now.”

Much to my surprise, she listened.

The small wolf slowly crept out of the closet and looked around hesitantly.

I sat down on my bed and patted the space next to me. When she jumped up and laid down beside me, a sense of relief washed over me.

“She likes you,” Lily commented. “And she trusts you.”

“I sure hope so,” I admitted.

“How bad is it?”

I shrugged. “Nothing we can't fix. Thomas even volunteered to help.” I chuckled.

“He can handle it.”

“I know. He's just a bit out of practice.”

“You really don’t need this hassle right now. Why don't you just let him bring a team in and knock it out?”

“He offered. I declined. I just can't have a bunch of men, especially unmated ones, around here right now. I think he understands that.”

“Yeah, I'm sure he does.”

“Hey, thanks for keeping her company. I needed to see how bad it is for myself.”

“Anytime. I hope when she's ready to shift that we can maybe talk for real. You here that? I'm a friend. You have a lot of friends around here who are on our side and have our back. We take care of each other, and we're going to take care of you too.”

She lifted her head and quirked it to the side.

“Why? Because you're important to Emmett, and he's really important to us, too. I'll see you guys later. Gonna go check and see how my man's doing.”

The Alpha order had worn him out. I had noticed it too. It was clear that Lily was worried about him.

“Take care of him. I'll talk to you guys soon.”

“Of course. Call if you need anything at all.”

I listened as they all drove away.

“Looks like it's just me and you now. Will you shift so we can talk?”
