She shook her head.
“Fine,” I huffed.
Leaving her there, I got up and secured the window and door. I'd never felt anything but safe here, but that was all gone now, and the reality of that vulnerability was starting to sink in.
“Why won’t you talk to me? Why are you hiding in your fur?” I yelled when I got back into the room and saw her still laying there in wolf form. “You showed yourself to me once already. I know you're in there. Just come out and talk to me.”
She whimpered and jumped off the bed to hide in the closet once more.
I growled in frustration.
After everything we'd just faced, was I really being so unreasonable?
“You could, I don't know, talk to me or something,” I told her again.
There was no response.
I grabbed the remote to the large TV hanging over my dresser and clicked it on. Scrolling through a million channels and finding nothing worth watching only infuriated me more.
Not even bothering to explain anything further to her, I got up and went to the kitchen to make some dinner. The smells of steak drew her out of her hiding spot. I could hear her stomach grumbling.
“Hungry?” I finally asked.
When there was no answer, I turned to find her still in her fur.
She nodded her large head.
I sighed. I had no patience whatsoever. We'd been through something traumatic today. I needed her, and not in this form. Stubbornly, I wasn't going to confess that though.
I grabbed one of the bloody raw steaks and put it on a plate and then set it on the floor.
“I shouldn't be serving my mate like a goddamn dog,” I grumbled.
She sniffed it and backed away in disgust.
“What? T-bone isn't good enough for you? Well too bad. That's all I have.”
Unlike most shifters, I didn't really care much for raw food. I didn't even like my steak cooked rare. The guys always gave me shit about it, but I didn't care. I wanted what I wanted and some things I wasn't willing to compromise on.
I cooked mine until it was good and done and then sat down to eat.
Those big brown eyes stared back up at me, pleading me for something. The hell if I knew what.
“What?” I finally snapped causing her to jump back.
She licked her lips and stared at my steak.
“I already gave you a steak. Eat.”
She looked repulsed and shook her head.
I looked at her, the steak on the floor, and then back at mine and scoffed.
“You want my steak?”
Her big head nodded and her tongue shot out to lick her lips once more.
I groaned and set my plate on the floor.
