“Okay, okay. I believe you. Lily is dying to come over and see her. How do you think she'd handle another female.”
“I have no idea. But she refuses to shift, so she's still in her fur.”
“Okay. I really don't like this.”
“I know, and I'm sorry to put you in this position.”
“Is she still in heat?”
“Yes?”
“How do you not know if your mate is in heat?”
“Because she's my mate. I think I smell her differently than the others. But Will was unaffected by it and his wolf hasn't come in yet. Your wolf is already bonded to Lily's, so maybe it wouldn't even affect you. I could have Austin come by and trial that theory first.”
“I can't do that to Austin.”
“He's like a brother to me, I get it. But he's not our Alpha. I think we need to test this before putting you at risk.”
“No.”
“Yes. I'll call you when it’s done.”
I hung up on him before he could protest and called Austin right away.
“Thomas is going to try to order you not to come over here, so when he calls, ignore it.”
“He's beeping in now.”
“Ignore him. I have something important I need you to do.”
I explained what I wanted and my theory that because his wolf was bonded that he wouldn't experience the same draw to her that Brady and the others had.
“Are you insane? You brought a rabid wolf in heat back to your house?”
“She's not rabid,” I growled.
The phone when silent on the other end while I calmed down.
“Um, Emmett?”
“What?” I barked.
“Why are you doing this? Who is she to you?”
“She's my mate,” I admitted.
He paused and then burst out laughing.
“You're an ass.”
“Your mate is a rabid man-eating wolf in heat?”
I growled, but it didn't stop him because he didn't have a lick of sense in that brain of his.
“Shut the hell up, Austin. You don’t know what you're talking about.”
That made him laugh even harder.
