Tansy grins at something behind me. “Hey, hot stuff.”

Greg sighs with a growl. “Hey.” He moves beside me and smacks my arm. “Your brother is driving me fucking insane.”

“I’m not his keeper. Talk to Hadley. She yanks his leash.”

He frowns. “I don’t want that image in my head.”

I glare at Greg as the team exits the field. “Tansy just told me you’re her boyfriend. That’s adorable.” I giggle and smile at Trashy before switching to glare at Greg.

He appears confused and then annoyed, which is how he usually looks at me.

I leave the dugout with my glove and head to my car, thankful that I’ll be done with Greg once and for all in two days.

I CHECK MY PHONE AND see more texts from my father, complaining about random shit. There’s not enough food in my apartment. I’m behind on the laundry. Greg and I kept him up with our loud sex. Blah, blah, blah.

Sitting back in Greg’s chair, I set my phone down on his desk. He’d kill me if he knew I use his desk when I work. When I start work the next night, I move things to different locations, and they’re somehow put back in their original places. How fun.

I hear the elevator, which isn’t so strange since Amos pops in once a night to check on me. I pick up the first stack of documents he had given me to work on and stand to take them into his office. Before he gets to the doorway, I say, “Hey, Amos.”

“Don’t insult me.”

I spin around, and the folders slip, but I catch them. He’s still wearing the ripped jeans and Tom Petty shirt from practice. I hate Greg is smoking hot, with his full lips, strong jawline, chocolate-brown eyes, and firm biceps. Even his voice is sexy. And he realizes none of it. “What are you doing here, Rod?”

“Confronting the ghost that’s been fucking around with my desk.”

“Maybe it was Rhonda.” I’m such a shit.

“No, she’s my friend. You...aren’t.” Damn, that hurts.

“Cool. Well, see you around.”

Before I turn away, he says, “I was on my way to Tansy’s apartment, but I needed to make a stop.” He looks down the hall and into Amos’s office. “I stopped.”

“You’re wasting time here, so be on your horny way. I’m sure your naked girlfriend is ready to go.” I make a gagging face, which isn’t fake.

His smoldering gaze falls to my chest, so I cover it with folders. Greg asks, “How’s it fair that you get to wear a T-shirt and sweats to work?”

“It’s splendid. Anything else?”

He crosses his arms and leans against the doorjamb, looking like a stupid model. “Care to share why you licked me earlier? To make Tansy jealous? She wasn’t, so you failed.”

“Darn,” I say, snapping my fingers. “I really cared what she thought the whole time.”

“Then why did you do it?”

I shrug. “Betsy still pissed me off.”

“The only other person who really saw it was Tesco. Are you trying to fuck him now that you’re single?” His smartass tone drops, and I look up from the folders. For a second, he seems worried. Sure.

Exasperated, I sigh. “Do you care to share why you and Tansy are officially dating and you didn’t bother to tell me? I’m not fucking someone else’s boyfriend.”

“We all know that’s a crock.”

“Will you please go? I’m working.”

“At my desk, Garrison.”

“Amos said I could, Rod. I’m not stealing anything of yours.” Other than another woman’s boyfriend. I wave at his desk, apparently. “Like there’s anything to steal.” Greg glowers at me as I sift through the folders. “Why are you calling me Garrison again?”
