Parker cuddles into me. “Who knew she was so adventurous?”

I nudge him away. “Not me.”

Jamie jogs toward us, targeting Parker. She twists her knuckles against his scalp, asking, “Have you been giving Milo a hard time?”

“Ouch,” Parker complains, ducking away from her. “No, you maniac.”

Jamie laughs and settles down by Milo. Her eyes light up at the cupcakes. “Ooh. Are those your red velvet ones?”

I nudge the Tupperware closer. “Yep. Have at it.”

Jamie leans against Milo, making him recoil. “Dang. You’re soaked.”

“Duh. I was just in the water.” She puts down the cupcake to wring out her hair. “Some of us have been jumping off cliffs, you know.”

Milo winces as she flicks her wet hair at him. “Yeah, and I’ve dried off.”

Jamie rolls her eyes and then smooches his cheek. “Stop being such a baby, Milo.”

Milo muffles a laugh and then gestures at me. “We were just talking about how adventurous Kylie has been today.”

Jamie’s cheeks balloon as she nods with a mouthful of cupcake. She swallows and says, “I know. I totally thought you’d chicken out.” She snaps her fingers. “Come to think of it, I owe Kai five bucks now.”

My chin drops. “You were betting on me?”

“I can’t believe Kai bet Kylie would do it.” Parker laughs. “Maybe you’re the new daredevil now.”

I laugh. “Hardly.”

Milo peers over his shoulder at his brother, who backflips into the water. “He clearly has more faith in you than me.”

Jamie hangs an arm over his shoulder. “No, he knows you too well to bet on you.”

Parker sniggers, leaning over to take a snickerdoodle. “Yeah, I wouldn’t take that bet either.” He sits up, giving me a wink. “But, as for Kylie, I’m always betting on her.”

“Ick.” Jamie grimaces. “That was so sickly sweet I might barf.”

Soon enough, the rest of the group joins and devours the snacks. My heart sinks when Lewis and Yvette don’t join. Everyone congratulates me for jumping off the cliff on my first time up there. I smile and nod my thanks, but can’t help keeping an eye on the water. Lewis and Yvette are swimming together, and I wish someone would call them over.

“So, no one could make Yvie jump?” Parker asks.

“She was hysterical,” Tyler says with his lip upturned.

“Welcome to life with Yvette Anderson,” Tabitha teases.

Kai snaps his fingers. “Hey, the fair is coming to town. Are we all going?”

Tabitha blows out a breath, side-eyeing the waterfall. “I think I’ll hit my limit if I’m there with Yvie.”

Jamie nudges Milo. “We’re in, right.”

Milo half-smiles. “I guess.”

“I’ve got nothing better to do,” Tyler adds.

Kai pulls an arm around Tabitha. “Lewis will want to bring Yvie. We can’t just exclude them.”

“Maybe we just go in two groups?” Parker blurts. “Me, Kylie, Lewis, and Yvie can go in my car. Maybe we’ll all meet up somewhere in the fairgrounds.”
