Kai looks at Tabitha. “Does that work?”

She nods. “The buffer room sounds good to me.”

Parker nudges me. “Do you wanna come with me to tell Lewis and Yvie?”

I nod and Parker latches onto my hand, leaving for the water. As we approach, it takes a moment to spot them. Parker leads me across the rocks, readying to call out to his friend and his crush.

He halts, making me run into his back. I peer around him, seeing Lewis and Yvette swimming to the base of the waterfall.

Tiptoeing across the wet, slippery rocks, Yvette leads Lewis by the hand behind the waterfall.

I glance at Parker and then back at the waterfall. Through the haze of the water, the couple come into view.

My heart sinks.

Oh no.

They’re not...

Yvette throws her head back, giggling as Lewis wraps his arms around her waist. They cuddle under the rush of water flowing overhead.

My mouth runs dry and everything goes out of focus, except for these two.

Like magnets, their lips press together with unbreakable force.

No.

No, no, no.

Did I do this? Did what I said about Parker and I kissing push her into doing this incredibly romantic display?

Suddenly, I’m yanked by the hand and spun to the side.

“Don’t look,” Parker whispers as my face lands by the nape of his neck. “I can tell it’s upsetting you. Don’t do it to yourself.”

“If I don’t look, it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen,” I whisper back.

“But it won’t hurt as bad.”

At that, I look up at his face, and he gives me a sympathetic smile. Oh my gosh. He was saying it to himself as much as me.

Great. Now my heart hurts for him too.

“I’ll break them up,” he whispers. “I promise.”

I grab his hand and intertwine my pinky with his. “We’llbreak them up.”

I know I shouldn’t, but I glance back at the waterfall. Out from under the rush of the water, Lewis and Yvie are hugging. Yvie’s head rests on Lewis’s shoulder and her stare points toward us.

Wait. It’s not at us.

It’s at Parker.

Whoa. Was she counting on him watching?

She kissed Lewis for Parker’s benefit?

I blink hard to ensure my eyes aren’t playing tricks on me. Yvette cuddles into Lewis, no longer looking in this direction.
