“Sure. I still think he’s a good guy.”

“Well, it’s not like he’s kicked out of the group, but we will give him a hard time. That’s just how things roll with us.”

“Yeah, so I’ve seen.”

She pats my shoulder as she leaves the counter. “Glad you’re doing okay.”

The next time the café door opens, my nerves don’t spike.

Phew.

It’s Josie.

She edges her way over to me, her head shaking with disbelief.

I walk her to an empty table and she flops down with a huff. “You and Parker broke up?”

I lower myself beside her, careful not to sit during such a busy shift. “Mm-hmm.”

“So, what does this mean? Are you and Lewis a thing?”

I shake my head. “No, but I think Parker and Yvie are.”

Rage boils in Josie’s eyes. “He didn’t.”

I shrug. “It was the plan.”

Josie pivots left to right, and then she asks, “So, Lewis is single?”

I raise a hand. “Don’t go there. It’s not happening.”

She winces. “Did he reject you?”

I click my tongue. “Ugh. I rejected him.”

She splutters a laugh. “No way.”

“Yes way. He wanted to kiss me, and I pulled away.”

Josie pulls at her hair. “How can this be? That was your dream.Thefantasy!”

“I just don’t feel the same way anymore.”

“How come?”

I sigh. “Because of Parker.”

“Oh, Kylie. I’m sorry.”

“I feel so stupid for catching feelings. I knew what we were doing and where it was leading.”

“Well, I tried to tell you, you had the feels.”

I scoff. “When?”

“The other day when he brought his little brother into the café,” Josie replies. “You were both lighting up around each other. I swear, he was into you too. How the heck could he leave you for Yvette?”

“Because he wants her.”
