“There is some DNA similar. But not in the way that would make her fear me.”
“What?”
“A lizard-like species tried to grab her once,” he replied.
“Oh.”
“Is it true?”
“What is?”
His tongue flicked out, and it was similar to a snake tongue. “You’ve mated with a morynth. I can smell it. Any alien who has heightened senses would know. Who was he?”
I shrugged. “It’s not for me to say.”
His eyes narrowed. Wonder what his normal eyes were like? At this point, what was normal? “Have you eaten?” I asked.
“Why?”
I shook my phone. “I’m ordering pizza. So what do you want?”
In a pleasant tone, he said, “I have never eaten human pizza before.”
“Well, you’ll get a treat.” I stepped to the stairs. “You want your usual?”
“Yes!” she hollered.
“Okay, I’m ordering!”
“Ricon’s alive!” she yelled back.
Well, duh, the idiot was alive.I frowned as I looked at my phone. I sucked in a breath as I tried to tamp down the tears. So many emotions warred within me.This wasn’t fair. Andy got her alien. Shit, hesavedher, wantedher.
“Ricon’s a morynth.”
“Yeah.”
“He’s your mate,” he whispered.
My eyes fluttered because I didn’t want to cry. “I didn’t say that.”
“You acted like you knew when I said it.”
“So? I’m in shock.”
“He left you.”
“Yeah, I know. What a fucking jerk,” I muttered as I swiped open the pizza app.
“I’ve got to go to work,” I announced as I put my breakfast dishes into the sink.
“Fine.”
“We have to have a serious conversation soon. You realize that, right?” I asked as I looked at Andy staring at her coffee. Her other hand twirled the spoon inside her bowl of cereal.
Andy crossed her arms. “Yeah. I guess.”
“Did you plan to keep it a secret for as long as you know me? I say that, implying that you will live longer than me.”
