“I don't remember if you’ve ever told me your favorite foods. So I just googled simple foods.”

She turned before she walked into the kitchen. “What’d you choose?”

“A beef stroganoff.”

Chloe shrugged as she turned back to the table. I walked past her and scooped her a bowl of food. I passed it to her, and she sat down at the table. As she took a few bites, she looked at me. “You don’t believe me? You said you saw an alien spaceship, but you don’t believe that guy was an alien.”

“It’s complicated, Chloe.” I should have never said that to her. Why have I made so many mistakes lately?

She pursed her lips as she narrowed her eyes.

“I’ve been told that aliens do exist and now I have evidence of that. Andy will believe me! I’m calling Andy,” she said. “I can’t wait to tell her!”

Chapter 26

Chloe

Istepped out of the house and breathed a sigh of relief. Damn. Just having a wall between us helped me immensely. Did I like Ric? I stared at the wall like it would give me the answers. Shaking my head, I pulled my phone out.

“Andy!!!!!!” I screamed.

“Damn, you woke me up, Chloe,” she said.

In the background, I heard her boyfriend mumble, “Get off the phone and come ride my tail, love.” My brows furrowed at the weird comment. Maybe that was a nickname for his cock? Ew. Weird.

“Shhhh, I’m on the phone.” There was a rustling and a beep in the phone's background. “Okay, it’s better now. What do you need?”

“I just found proof of aliens!” I pulled the phone away and sent the picture to Andy.

After a few seconds, Andy sucked in a breath. “What the fuck is that?”

“It’s an alien! And he saidmate, like the books do!”

“Honey, are you sure you heard that? I know you sometimes wish that things were like the books,” she said.

“Liar. Your mom said they exist. I believe her.”

“Fine, call Scully then.”

“Wow. That’s an old joke,” I replied.

“It’s been trending on the socials lately.”

“Look, I have it on good authority that there is an actual spaceship here. On Earth!”

Andy gasped. “What?”

“I know nothing about it. My friend saw it, but now I’m mad at them because they don’t believe me either.”

“They saw this and said that it’s not an alien?”

“Yep.”

“Who’s your friend? Not the creepy guys from last month, right?”

“No.” What can I say that is not a lie? We’ve been scooting around the truth for weeks. I bit my bottom lip as I paced.

“If you see them, contact me right away. I’ll send someone to protect you. Hold on.”
