Page 12 of The Fallen Alpha

“My name’s Olli.” He turned to us, a huge smile on his face. Motioning to each one of us. “The others are Hannah, Fin, Markus, and Harley. We’ve all been summoned to help you.”

“Help me what? There’s no way the six of us can defeat the Dolostone pack.” This young alpha must have gone through a lot. He held so much doubt in his voice I felt sorry for him. Hell, I had been the same way. Besides he wasn’t wrong there was no way the six of us could take out an entire pack.

Olli burst out laughing and Nolen stood and walked away from us. I watched him for a moment before standing and heading after him. We both lost our packs, so the only person that would be able to get through to him would be me.

As we continued in the forest, Nolen finally rounded on me. His wolf was almost to the surface. He had the makings of a powerful wolf. So, how did he lose his alpha challenge? My uncle wasn’t that strong. “What do you want? You come to laugh at me, too?”

I crossed my arms while I stood there inspecting him. He held my eyes the true making of an alpha. After sizing him up, I took a deep breath before answering him. “Listen, I understand what you are going through. I lost my pack a long time ago, and then a few years ago, I was guided here to the wolves back there in the clearing. I don’t know what the Goddess has in store for you, but I do know I’m here to make a difference for you, and so are they. You need help, and we are here to do that.”

“And what are you and they going to teach me that I haven’t already been taught?” He asked, as he glared back at me. His arms crossed over his chest.

“We can teach you a lot and guide you to be able to obtain your pack back.” I came up to him, face to face. I was just as big as he was. A few more years and he might even be bigger than me. “You have too much strength to be letting this old alpha take what is yours. It’s time Alpha Wade is taken out before he decides he wants to be king over all of the werewolves.”

No one in this rogue pack knew that Alpha Wade was my uncle and I wanted to keep it like that.

“So, what are you all wanting me to do? Why would the Goddess care if I lost my pack? Alphas lose their packs all the time. What makes me special?”

“Have you heard the prophecy?” The prophecy wasn’t something that I believed in, but if it would help get this young alpha in the right frame of mind, then I would use whatever I needed.

“I’ve heard rumors of a prophecy. But I’m not unmated. I have a mate; she’s just not old enough to feel the bond.”

“Still unmated, my friend. You’ve not consummated the bond with her. So, she and you are still unmated. This prophecy may not be world-changing, or it might be. No one knows but the Moon Goddess herself. But I was instructed to come to this band of wolves to find you and help you along in your journey. If you are too proud to take help or want to wallow in self-pity, then I will take my leave right here.” I glared at him and noticed the recognition take over his features.

I waited there as he gazed at the ground. He seemed to mull things over in his mind as he stood in front of me. I had been in his position before I met Markus and the others. Holding onto my self-pity and anger. Now I wanted to take my uncle down so that I could live in peace.

Nolen glanced back up at me and nodded, determination gracing his face and stance. “Fine, let’s get started.”

One night, we had all been sitting around the fire. Olli was cooking and everyone shared how they came to be rogue, I left out a few details. I sat against the wall of the cave we had found a few days prior, watching and listening as each one shared their story with Nolen. The thing about me and Nolen was, we were just alike in some ways. My uncle had taken his pack from him just like he had taken my pack from me.

There wasn’t a fiber in my body that didn’t want to rip that son of a bitch apart. If I got the chance, I would. Just because he was family wouldn’t hold me back from taking his life with my fangs sunk in his throat. As his blood gushed down my throat. Ever since we found Nolen I had thought of nothing more than finding my uncle and ending his reign.

Nolen was a quick study. He took to training like his life depended on it. Which, in a sense it did. He had his issues at first and I didn’t take any pity on him. Nolen was an alpha, and I was going to treat him and train him as such. Just like I would do to my pup if I had one. The other wolves in this rogue pack were warrior wolves that could teach him what he needed to know about those aspects, but fighting like an alpha that was all on me.

Before this whole thing happened, I was going to make sure he was the best there was to be. He had to be if he was the prophesied alpha. If what the Moon Goddess had told each of us was true, then this territory relied on him to make things right.

I watched as Nolen, and Hannah trained. Hannah and Harley were the ones that were teaching Nolen patience and speed. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought they both had alpha blood in their line somewhere back in their family tree. Nolen had almost caught Hannah multiple times, but she would always dance away from him just out of reach.

For as young as Nolen was, he was wise beyond his years. There was talk among the packs before I’d been exiled, that our wolves were reincarnated from previous ancestors. If so, that could be why some of us were wiser than others. Aloysius remained quiet as we watched the training. He couldn’t wait to have a go at his wolf. My wolf could sniff out alpha blood in his sleep. I glanced up at the sun and sky. There were stars already trying to take over the sky from the day.

“You are learning fast, Nolen!” Hannah’s voice drifted over to me, bringing my gaze back to her as she flipped out of Nolen’s grasp. Hannah was putting him through his paces.

“Apparently not, since I still cannot catch you.” Nolen groaned as he turned, keeping her in his sight. I had taught him that, and boy, did I teach it well. He couldn’t stand straight for a couple of days after that training exercise. I might have been a little rougher than what was needed.

“No one has ever caught me but my brother.” Hannah laughed at him as she finally came to a stop. “Anyway, I guess we can quit. It’s about time for dinner.”

I watched them as they made their way back to the cave before heading into the rocky structure myself and sitting down by Markus. Harley was doling out the food into the wooden bowls that Olli had made. Hannah and Nolen came in and we each nodded to them before Nolen made his way to the side of the cave. I had noticed that he was coming away with less and less marks on him than before.

Hannah sat beside me and gave me a nudge with a grin. I flirted back with her even though she was a friend to me and I didn’t think of her in any sexual way. But it was fun to have Harley sending me evil glares as I did. When she found her mate, he would have to deal with his overprotectiveness differently.

Olli had taken to the young alpha and made sure to sit with him after each training session. I was sure that he had been a delta wolf or someone who trained the younger wolves. I watched as Nolen left the cave to wash his bowl after he had finished it. It didn’t take him long to come back in and head to the back of the cave to shift. He was going to be a great alpha once we got his pack back.

His wolf was something to be amazed with. They always laid by the entrance. It was an alpha thing to do. To protect those in your pack. I guess I had lost some of that instinct. You haven’t lost that part of you, Fin. You just haven’t been in that position for quite some time.

Yeah, I will never be an alpha again.

You don’t know that. I believe the Goddess has a plan for all of us that she is using to help this alpha. We just need to stay on the right path.

Movement at the front of the cave woke me. I was always a light sleeper. My eyes adjusted to the darkness and landed on the silvery wisp that led Nolen away from us. So, the Moon Goddess decided that she was going to meet with him.
