Dean roars, joining me, his hips jerking before they still. I feel every twitch of his cock as he empties himself.
When he relaxes, he holds me close to him, breathing against my skin. I can’t talk, can’t even move to tell him how much I love him.
Chapter Thirty-Four
MADISON
Iwake in the lush bed, Dean’s arms curled around my body. My hair’s damp. The towel’s still wrapped around me. Lavender and bath soap radiates off his arm. I can’t help but lower my nose, filling my lungs with the calming scent as I pull him closer, my eyes still closed.
I need to get him to talk. I need to find out what’s really going on. If I have any hope of keeping him away from what Mollie suggested he may have done, I need to know sooner rather than later. I need to end this. He can’t leave me again. I won’t let him.
Making me jump, the baby kicks.
Dean’s hand moves to cradle it. “She’s going to be a fighter,” he says softly, waking from his dozed state. He buries his face in my neck as he speaks, undoing my towel as his hand strokes my stretched skin.
“Will you come with me Wednesday?”
Dean kisses my neck. “Wednesday?” he questions.
Inclining my face towards his, he lays his mouth on mine. “I have a scan,” I tell him once he breaks away.
Dean lifts his finger to my face, brushing my hair away, stroking my cheek to under my chin. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
Joy unfolds like a flower in spring. I lift my hand to cup the side of his face. “Thank you.”
His eyes narrow, his lips pulling tight. “Why are you thanking me?”
I shrug. Why am I thanking him? He should be there. “I don’t know.”
Dean’s eyes move between mine. “You’re doubting me.”
It’s not a question. “No, I—”
“Don’t ever doubt the love I have for you, Mads. It’s the only thing I’m sure of.”
My heart stammers. My hackles rise, suddenly defensive. “It’s not doubt, Dean.” I steadily roll, lifting to one elbow. I look down to him, now laid on his back.
His hand brushes my hair off my face.
“It’s fear,” I say, my voice gravelly. “Fear that I’ll lose you.” My tears brim.
He swiftly wraps an arm around me, pulling my body to his.
I lay my palm flat on his chest.
“Lose me?” Dean wraps his fingers around the back of my neck. “You couldn’t lose me if you tried.”
I raise a half smile. “You’d find me through the storm,” I whisper.
He smiles, not fully knowing but understanding what I’m talking about.
“I know something’s not right.” He frowns. “Is it bad? Will you get hurt? Dean, I can’t have you leaving me again.”
“Babe,” he coos, calming me. Dean pushes me to my back so he’s looking down at me. His eyes and his hand move to my bump. He takes a few moments, stroking my skin before he leans down and places a kiss above my belly button. “What happens next for me,” he looks up, “I don’t have a choice. I have to see it through. But I have told you, everything I do from here on out is for you. For my child.” I go to open my mouth but he cuts me off. “I want out.”
Out? He wants out? From the club? “Out?” I ask shifting my head on the pillow.
He nods.
