“Do you want to patch into the club, lad?”
Like a fool, Legs nods his head.
“Then don’t ever fucking question me again.”
Legs reluctantly moves behind the bar and pours Dennis his drink.
I look at Travis, widening my eyes. “I’m taking Lauren back to mine. She’s going to stay with me for a bit.”
We move away from the others. “Need my help?”
“No.” I grab my things from the table hearing the bedroom door open. “I’ll sort it.”
Travis clutches at his chest.
“You going to be able to ride?” I ask him looking at the blood still staining his clothes.
“It won’t stop me.”
Of course it won’t.“I’ll take Lauren to grab a few things.”
“Okay. You call me if you need me.”
I nod my head. “And you call me if you hear from Dean?” He frowns, and I sigh. “I need to see him, Travis. I know you don’t want me to—”
“—Don’t push this anymore. I won’t ask him to put your name on the visitor list. See you later.”
With that, he turns and makes his way to the other members who have congregated by the bar.
I’m left standing on my own. Depleted.
Travis might refuse to help me, but I refuse to accept I have to stay away. Pulling out my phone, I quickly type out a message to Mollie.
Me: Mollie, how are you?
She replies instantly.
Mollie: Fine, Mads. Everything okay?
Me: Actually, I need a favour. When are you next seeing Dean?
Mollie: 11am. What do you need?
Me: You think you can put my name on the visitor’s list?
Mollie: No. I can’t do that.
My heart drops. Then I realise how selfish I’m being, asking her to break the rules for me. Someone she doesn’t even know.
Me: I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked.
Mollie: I get it. Believe me, I do. But I can’t. I’m sorry.
Me: Don’t apologise. Just, promise me you’ll bring him home?
Mollie doesn’t reply.
Lauren and I grab the things she’ll need for staying with me. Some new clothes, toiletries, a few other essentials. I even take her for a haircut before we buy some food for later. All the while we’re walking around the shops, guilt well and truly nestles itself deep inside me. I should never have asked Mollie to put my nameon the visitor’s list. Not only could she get into trouble, it goes against her and Dean’s confidentiality.
