“Fucking, Jack,” he snarls.
He might be my president, but he’s talking to me like I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing. “I sit down with Ronnie soon. I’ll text him once I’ve booked the flights. Look, we’ve done the leg work, he knows that. This is just a formality. It’s done.”
“And the girl?”
My girl.“Is none of your concern.” My blood starts to heat like wildfire.
I hear him sigh on the other end. “I’ll see you before, but I’ll get Skitz to drop you in the van to the airport, leave your bike here where it’s safe.”
Not a bad idea I suppose. “Okay. See you Monday.” I end the call.
Letting the fire in me settle, I light another smoke outside. I haven’t seen Ronnie and Jack for years, but I’ve heard about their dealings with the Saviours. Things are definitely intensifying at home and away.
Taking Mads with me should be fine. She could stay here, but the thought of not taking her leaves me with chills.
I want to have her close to me.
Fuck, Ineedto have her close to me.
Chapter Seventeen
As I fill out my registration form at the doctors, I think back to my first work meeting this morning. Meeting the team I’ll be working with was great. We’re all pretty new to the role, except for Alex. He’s the one who’ll be in charge of us all.
I have one girl under my remit and two boys. The girl is fifteen years of age, and the boys are both twelve. I’ll be their mentor and life role model. I have mixed feelings. I’m excited to work with them but more than anything I just hope I can do right by them as a councillor, and I pray that they like me.
Handing my forms over to the receptionist, I also ask to book an appointment to see a GP with regards to a fertility check. I was still undecided, until two minutes ago when she asked me if there was anything else she could help with.
“Will your partner be attending, Miss Reed?”
The man who loves me? “Urm, no. Just me.”
“That’s fine, that’s all booked for next Friday at two.”
“Wow, that’s quick.” I can feel myself sweating. I figured it would be months before I’d have to face up to it.
“You got lucky, Miss Reed.”
Lucky me.“See you next week.”
My heart is racing as I walk out. It’s one thing assuming something’s wrong with you, but to have it confirmed will be another. My phone rings from my bag.
“Hello?”
“Madison. Your roguishly handsome biker boy is sat outside my house.” He’s early. I still have half an hour before he’s due to pick me up.
“I’m heading back now, Jess.”
“Okay. Want me to go outside and tell him?”Absolutely not. She’ll be sharing my secrets and showing baby photos before I get back if she starts talking to him.
“No! I’ll be back in five minutes.”
I hang up and rush to my car.
I can see his bike outside Jess’s house, but no VP.Bollocks. I dread to think what Jess is up to without me to buffer her. I open the door and find they’re both sat on the sofas with hot cups of tea in their hands. Two sets of eyes look up to me.
“Everything okay?” I ask tentatively.
“Yes. How was your meeting?” A coy look rests on Jess’s face.
