Page 27 of Lennon

My heart sinks. I hadn’t even thought of that angle, and I would have felt like complete shit if we cost Lennon her first friend in town.

Gia shakes her head and reassures me, “Don’t worry. I didn’t take it like Kemp pressured me into being on your side. I just think she would be perfect for the three of you and might be the only woman on the planet capable of handling you three. I also want my friend to be happy and since you always blow off everyone who pants after you, my gut is telling me that you’ll worship her like a queen.”

“We will,” I assure her.

With a parting smile from her and chin lift from me, I make my way toward the elevator and up to the executive floor. The moment I step off the elevator, I’m tempted to turn right back around to hide. Lia is standing at Jack’s desk with her tits practically spilling out of her button-down shirt.

“Come on, Jack,” Lia pleads. “What can I do to get on Lachlan’s schedule? I really need to meet with him,” her words are dripping with innuendo that makes me cringe.

“His schedule is full,” Jack’s words are clipped, and it becomes clear this conversation has been going on for a little while.

It’s probably not the first time it’s happened either. The realization pisses me the fuck off. Lia isn’t even that great of an agent. She relies on her beauty more than her brains. For some of our clients that’s enough, but it’s not a good look for the company.

I make a mental note to email Susan to schedule a time to have a conversation with Lia about company standards and to find out if there have been any complaints made against her. I won’t have her behavior sullying the reputation my dad built.

Just as I approach the desk, Lennon walks down the hallway and I want to scream. Lia must hear someone approaching because she turns with a sour look on her face before she realizes who is standing in front of her.

Watching someone go from looking like she’s sucking on a lemon to trying to be seductive is almost comical. It certainly would be if I weren’t the one she has in her sights.

“Lachlan,” Lia purrs as she steps closer to me. “You brought us lunch,” she exclaims brightly.

I glance at Lennon who is watching the exchange with something like jealousy in her eyes. If I were a lesser man, I would use that to my advantage, but I’m not about playing games, not when it comes to my woman.

“No,” I state firmly, “I did not bring lunch for you. You’re not on my schedule.” I turn my attention to Lennon and give her a small smile, hoping she doesn’t shoot me down. “I brought lunch for Lennon.”

Lia gasps and presses her hand to her chest like I’ve offended her. Or maybe she’s trying to bring my attention to her cleavage. Not going to fucking happen.

When Lia turns toward my woman, she looks her over with derision clearly written in her eyes. “Oh, I don’t believe we’ve met, yet. Lisa, is it?”

Lennon gives Lia a saccharine smile that should be a warning, but it’ll be one that Lia doesn’t receive. “No, I haven’t had the pleasure. And it’s Lennon, but you know that because you just heard Lachlan say it,” she calls Lia on her shit swiftly and smoothly.

Jack coughs to cover up his snort and I have to admit, I’m not much better. I barely hold in a bark of laughter. When Lennon glances at me, her brown eyes are sparkling with mischief.

I’m not only curious to see how this plays out, but I’m turned the fuck on. Our woman is a force. A beautiful, alluring force I want to be swept up in.

“I’m sorry, I’m horrible with names,” Lia titters. I frown because that is not a good quality for an agent to have, even if she’s only searching for an excuse for her rudeness. I swear I see the light bulb go off in her head as she realizes who, exactly, Lennon is. “Oh,” she exclaims, “you’re Lachlan’s stepsister.” She turns toward me and tries to thrust her tits in my direction, but I don’t fall for the bait. “It’s so sweet of you to bring your stepsister lunch.”

I make a humming sound, but don’t offer anything else. Instead, I step around her and grip Lennon’s elbow softly. I desperately want to run away with her, but I force myself to move slowly and deliberately.

I throw back over my shoulder, “Jack, I got you a sandwich if you want to come and grab it. Lia, don’t try and bribe Jack into getting you on my schedule when you have no reason to meet with me.”

I don’t have to look back to know Lia is fuming right now. There’s probably steam coming out of her ears, but I don’t give a shit. Lennon’s curiosity gets the better of her, and she glances back.

“Oh, she’s pissed,” she whispers to me, and I smile down at her when she looks up at me.

Lennon stumbles over her feet, but I don’t let her fall. I’ll never let her fall.

“I really don’t care whether she’s mad or not. I’m not interested in what she’s selling. She needs to do her job and stop trying to get in my pants,” I growl.

“I bet it’s not justyourpants she’s trying to get into,” Lennon muses.

“You’d be correct and none of us have given her the time of day.” I shoot her a meaningful look. “We’re spoken for.”

The blush that rises on Lennon’s cheeks makes me want to press her against the hallway wall and kiss her until she can’t think of anything other than the way I can make her body sing and how good my brothers and I can make her feel.

“Ohhhh,” Jack holds out the word as he catches up to us, amusement dancing in his voice, “she’s mad-mad.”

“She needs to realize this is a business and not a dating service,” I bite out.
