“Anything you want on the menu?”

“I’ll speak to Trish. She’ll get with Snooki.”

“Sounds good, pres.” I pushed off the table and stood, pulling out my phone to check the time. “I’m gonna swing by and check on Rowen. I promised Jacob that I’d find him some new art supplies. The kid only uses crayons. Wait until I bring him markers and colored pencils.”

Grim chuckled. “I won’t give Creed anything but crayons. He always finds a way to color on the damn walls.”

“Isn’t that what they do at two?”

Grim shook his head. “He’s smart enough to know I don’t like it. He looks at me, lifts his hand, and starts doodling, watching my reaction. Cute little shit pisses me off.”

“Because he’s just like you, Boss.”

“Fuck.” Grim shook his head. “I know.”

I couldn’t help laughing as I left, a spring in my step on the way to my bike. It had been less than a day since I saw Rowen and Jacob, and I had already missed being near them. When I watched Avengers with Jacob, I couldn’t stop grinning as he talked through the whole damn movie and explained everything about the characters and plot. Fucking adorable.

I picked up the art supplies and decided to bring a few pizzas with me. I didn’t know what Rowen had planned for dinner, but she seemed overwhelmed when I last saw her, and I figured she would enjoy not having to worry about it. She also appeared to like salad, so I grabbed a packaged mix with greens and a big bottle of ranch dressing. I added root beer, vanilla ice cream, a scoop, and a new set of glasses since I didn’t know what she had for dishes. To be safe, I tossed paper plates into the cart, too.

An hour later, I stood on her front steps, eight fucking bags of groceries gripped in my fists because I kept thinking of shit they might need, and no way to ring the damn doorbell or knock. I nearly kicked with my boot and decided that wouldn’t seem too neighborly.

The door opened and saved me when I saw Jacob as he flung it wide.

“Mammoth! You came back!”

“I told you I would, Little Man.”

His eyes grew wide. “Did you bring pizza?”

“Yep, and we’re making root beer floats too.”

His jaw popped open. “Really?”

“I wouldn’t lie to you, Bud.”

He blinked and ducked his head. “I know.”

“Jacob!” Rowen’s voice sounded frantic. “Did you open the door without telling me?”

“It’s Mammoth, Mama. He brought lots of stuff.”

She gasped and rushed toward me, scooping up the pizzas. “Wow. You didn’t have to do all this.”

“You’re right. I wanted to.” I winked at Jacob. “Plus, I’m starving. I need to eat. What about you, Little Man?”

“Yes!” His excitement brought a smile to Rowen’s face.

“Okay. Let’s get all this inside.”

We sat at her table, and I began to unload the bags as Jacob opened a pizza box and tried to snag a slice.

“I don’t think so, Jakey. Wash up first.”

He groaned but listened to his mother drying his hands on a towel that hung on the handle of the stove. “I’m washed up!”

She shook her head and laughed. “Two slices for now. I’ll get the salad ready.”

Jacob grinned at me before taking a slice of pepperoni and peeking into another box. “You got banana peppers! Mama never lets me have those.”
