The ladies started going through the clothes, picking out their sizes.

“I even have some for you,” I told the young girl.

“Really?”

I smiled wide. “Really. Here; let me help you find it.” I rifled through a bag and handed her an arm full of clothes and I included a teddy bear.

“Thank you.”

“You are very welcome.”

She ran off with her things. I can only assume she wanted to try everything on.

“Nella is my daughter. I really appreciate you doing this for us. And Mr. Alessio.”

“It’s the least we could do. How are you holding up?”

“Oh, I’m okay. I got a job interview the day after tomorrow.”

“That’s amazing. Good luck.”

I walked around talking to most of the women, and they couldn’t stop thanking me. But I didn’t know how to act, since technically I used Damon’s credit card. I did feel this connection to them and I hoped they knew I never felt like I was any better than them.

Once the ladies retreated to their rooms, I caught Jacinda in the kitchen. “Tell me, how is it really going with them?”

She leaned against the counter and crossed her arms. “Some better than others. But mostly they are okay. I’m going to have a counselor start coming in weekly or twice a week, maybe even have group sessions as well as individual sessions.”

“That’s a good idea.”

“You should come, too.”

I thought about it for a second. “I might. Just let me know what days and times when you get the info.”

“Thank you for bringing everything for them. I’m sure they are tickled to get new clothes and necessities.”

“Damon paid for everything. I just picked it all out.”

“Still…”

“I know. Well, I think I’m going to head home.”

“Have a good one. And thanks, again.”

“See ya.” I offered a wave before heading out the door.

Chapter Ten

DAMON

“Hello?” I said into my phone as I headed into my office.

“Hey, it’s Antonio.”

“Any news?”

Kara had wanted me to work with Antonio to find Olivia. But it was proving harder than I thought.

“Yes. I was calling because we are close. I have a lead that I think is pretty good. But I didn’t want to tell Kara in case it doesn’t pan out. I think we’ll be able to get her out soon.”
