“Nice?” I guessed.

Her eyes lit up. “Yes!”

Molly snorted, and my laughter doubled until Millie joined in.

“Is he paying you? Like, are you doing him a favor? ’Cause then maybe I’d understand.”

My eyes widened ’cause that hit a little too close to home.

“No,” I answered, shaking my head back and forth, still amused. “I’m very much a willing participant.”

“What are you willingly participating in?”

That voice.

I’d always loved the sound of Macon’s voice.

But now, after hearing him last night…so demanding, so sure of himself.

It was like a damn aphrodisiac.

I started to turn, but he was already there. I felt his hands brush my shoulders a second before he bent over and his lips met mine.

My hand found its way to his chin, pulling him closer, wanting more.

But we had an audience, and one of us had to remember that.

It clearly wasn’t me.

He pulled back, and I saw that cocky smile a second before he rose to his full height again. I turned around, and he was looking at me expectantly. Right, he’d asked me a question.

“You,” I answered, making his eyebrow rise. “I’m a willing participant. With you.”

He looked even more confused. It was kind of adorable.

“I asked if you were paying her,” Millie said dryly.

He gave her an incredulous stare. “I’m gonna pretend you didn’t say that.”

Millie just laughed. “Blink twice if you need help, Marin.” She did just that, exaggerating the motion. One blink, then two as she leaned back in her chair, looking smug.

I shook my head in amusement and turned my attention to Macon. “Are you on your lunch break?” I hadn’t expected to run into him here.

He nodded. “Not really a lunch break though. I ordered ahead. I have to get back to the station.”

“Busy day?” I asked as he stared at me intently. It gave me shivers.

“Yeah.” It came out like a sigh.

“Dinner tonight?”

He nodded again as his eyes briefly went to my collarbone, where he was lazily running his thumb over the tiny sliver of bare skin.

A ripple of pleasure ran down my spine.

Did he know what that was doing to me?

The corner of his mouth curved upward.
