“Theresa.”

Emma looked at me, clearly understanding the rapidly spoken Italian. Good. I wanted her to know I wouldn’t ever beg her for sex. There were plenty of women in Palermo gagging for a taste of my cock.

Not that I had plans with Theresa, but she usually made time for me when I needed it.

“You are married, Giacomo.” Sal’s tone dripped with disapproval. “You stood before God and made vows.”

I snorted. “Under duress. And tell me, did my father or brother ever honor their wedding vows?”

No one had an answer for that, because we all knew the truth. They hadn’t.

“Who are you taking with you?” Zani demanded. “You can’t go out alone. You need guards.”

“The only danger to me is blue balls. Don’t wait up.”

I went out the kitchen door, the late-day sun warming my skin. Zani caught up to me as I slid into the driver’s seat of my sedan. I tried to shut the door on him, but he got a hand in to stop me. I glared up at him. “Che cazzo?”

“It’s her first night here, Mo. Strange country, strange house. Strange husband. You fucked her in a hotel an hour ago. Shouldn’t you stay and try to . . .” He rolled his hand as he searched for the right word. “She’s innocent in all this. At least be nice to her.”

Nice? I couldn’t have been any nicer to her today. “I didn’t fuck her in that hotel. I just staged it to make it seem like I had. And Virga wants me to use her as leverage against her family. Believe me, I’m doing her a favor by ignoring her.”

“Sciatiri e matri! He actually said that?”

“Yes, and until I find out what game Virga is playing at, I’m not going anywhere near her.”

“I thought the point was to make peace.”

I shook my head. “I don’t think Virga has any interest in true peace. He wants to use me and my wife as pawns to gain more power for himself, which I won’t allow.”

“You could confide in Ravazzani, ask for his help with Virga. We could move Viv—”

I cut him off. “I’m not Ravazzani’s friend or confidant. And I don’t need his help. That stronzo stole our business and I intend to get it back.”

Zani considered this for a second. “What if Emma calls her family to rescue her? She has access to phones and the internet inside the house.”

The answer was simple. “Virga has something on Mancini, something that forced him to send his daughter to marry a stranger. I’m not worried that she’ll leave. Her father can’t allow it.”

“Yes, but she kept saying Virga made her a promise. Maybe he threatened her boyfriend to gain her cooperation?”

The scene in the bedroom earlier reverberated in my head. She’d been shocked, yes, but not repulsed. I caught her peeking at my dick, her chest heaving as she watched me jerk off, hard nipples poking through her shirt and bra. Hearing me had turned her on. “Possibly,” I allowed. “But isn’t this supposed to be the good sister? I don’t see her flouting her father’s rules with a boyfriend.”

“Actually, I don’t either. She’s very close to her father.”

“How do you know that?”

Zani didn’t bother to hide his exasperation. “Because I bothered to talk to her.”

“I fucking hate talking.” I shoved him back, then slammed the door shut. “Besides, that’s what I have you for. See you in the morning.”

CHAPTERSIX

Emma

Relief poured through me as Buscetta left the house. I didn’t care if he was meeting up with Theresa or Mirabella. Or both women at the same time. He could attend an orgy tonight and I would throw my hands up and cheer.

It wasn’t fair that I couldn’t return to Toronto. I had a very good reason to leave, one that actually mattered.

And now I am stuck here.Married. Ugh.
