“I do. I just wish I could turn my bleeding heart off. I want it to stop hurting.”
Braylon pulled his sister in his arms. “Don’t cry. You know I hate to see you and Mama cry.”
Ramsey wiped her face and took a deep breath. “Come on, y’all. Let’s play Uno before we send Nisha back to her man.” She giggled. “I’m happy for you, Nisha.”
“Thank you, Ramsey. Your knight in shining armor will appear and sweep you off your feet in due time.”
“Yeah. I hope you’re right.”
“I know I am. God knows how much you desire that. He won’t leave you hanging.”
God, please don’t leave her hanging.
Chapter 16
Oliver
I got out of my car, prepared to go inside the house and take a shower. I anticipated Kinisha’s call so much my dick wouldn’t go down. I didn’t know how I would take a piss if I couldn’t even bend that shit. Glancing around to make sure I wasn’t being watched, I went to the side of the garage and pulled my dick out to piss in the bushes. That was better than getting piss all over the toilet. That upward curve was a beast.
As I put my dick back in my pants, I heard what I thought was a snicker. When I looked around, I didn’t see anybody. I knew I wasn’t crazy, though. Kinisha didn’t play those sorts of games, not that I’d noticed anyway. I paid very close attention to her and the things she did. She played around sometimes, but she quickly made it known she was playing so there wouldn’t be any misunderstandings.
I headed toward my door, glancing over my shoulder. When I needed my gun, I never had it. After unlocking the door and heading inside, just as I was about to close it, a hand stopped it. I could clearly tell it was a woman. If that was Kinisha, I was gon’ fuck her against the door as punishment for having me on edge. However, when I opened it and saw Mya, I nearly came unglued. “What the fuck!”
She squeezed herself inside between the door and me. I calmly walked out of that bitch. I wasn’t about to be in that house with her. Grabbing my phone from my pocket, I called the police. I’d never filed the restraining order, thinking I had time since she was hospitalized. Obviously, I was wrong. Her injuries must not have been as serious as the district attorney let on. Kinisha should have let Sidney do her job.
After I pretty much threatened her life, the dispatcher said someone was en route. I wouldn’t kill that woman unless I felt my life was in danger, but she was getting pretty close. She’d never been to my house, either one of them. She’d followed me all the way to Beaumont. This shit was crazy. She was inside the house screaming at the top of her lungs. When the back door flung open, I wanted to hide. That would have been the smart thing, but at the same time, I couldn’t be feeling like a scared bitch over a woman half my size.
When she saw me, she smiled and walked in my direction.
“Mya, you need to get away from me. This shit is mad crazy. Like how you know where I live in Beaumont? You’ve only been to the Beaumont office once or twice. I’ve never taken you to either of my homes. Can’t you see how weird this shit is?”
“What’s weird about me loving you, Oliver? I’ll do whatever it takes to help you to see how much you mean to me.”
“This is illegal, Mya. You’re stalking me. This shit could get you killed. I need you to understand where I’m coming from,” I said as I heard sirens in the distance. “This could land you in jail as well. You need to take your medicine. Before all this, you were an amazing employee. Don’t let your illness destroy everything you’ve accomplished.”
“You don’t know shit about my illness. Nothing’s wrong with me. Why don’t you and my mom see that? I’m in love with a man who’s confused about who he wants to love. You don’t love Kinisha. She put a hex on you and took you away from me.”
The sirens had gotten louder, and she noticed. She began looking around and fidgeting quite a bit. “You called the police on me? Why would you do that? You’re suppose to love me, Oliver.”
She lunged at me, and I did my best to restrain her without hurting her. I felt sorry for her, despite the bullshit. She needed professional help. When I heard car doors close, I held her tighter. I didn’t need her lunging at the officers and getting killed. That shit would haunt my ass for a while. They came around the corner with their guns drawn because she screamed for me to let her go.
“Let her go, sir!”
“Can you listen for a moment? She’s volatile, and she’s also mentally ill. Please put your weapons away. I’m the one that called . . . Oliver Andrews. I’m going to loosen my grip slowly.”
Surprisingly, they listened well. I think it helped that both officers were Black. They didn’t put their weapons away, but they nodded in understanding. As I released her, she gripped me tighter. “Oliver, no! I’m scared.”
“Mya, please, let go. They are going to take you to get help. Maybe they can call your mom.”
“No!”
I tilted my head, beckoning them to come and get her. One of the officers put his gun away while the other maintained his stance. When he got to us, he positioned himself where she could see him.Smart move.
“Ma’am, we just need to get you away from Mr. Andrews. I need to ask you some questions about how he broke your heart,” he said, glancing up at me.
Oh, he’s good.
She loosened her grip on me.
