Page 29 of You Make Me Feel

I glanced at her from the corner of my eyes, ready to unleash on her ass. Although I was a naturally quiet and laid-back person, I had my breaking points, and she was tiptoeing on the line. I snatched my money back from her and ordered our food to go. After that, I got on my app and requested a Lyft. I turned to her and stared at her for a moment. She stared right back. Her eyes were somewhat shifty, and she looked nervous as hell. Something was surely up with her.

“Look. It’s not safe for me to be alone with you. I’m two seconds from snatching you up. The best thing is for you to get a ride with a Lyft. At this point, I don’t know what you’re capable of, and clearly, you don’t know what I’m capable of. I don’t wanna be that person with you, Mya. What’s going on with you? I’m nice to everybody. I have not shown you any preferential treatment. Whatever I do with you, I’d do with anyone else in the office if they’re available. I find it funny, though, that you’re always the one available. What’s going on?”

“I told you already. I love you! From the first time I saw you when you interviewed me, I made a vow that I would strive to be everything I thought you needed and that you would notice. I thought you did. But today, you broke my heart.”

I slid my hand over my bald head as other patrons looked on. I had to get away from her. If she put her hands on me when I left, I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from showing her how rough I could be. I led her to a table to sit while we waited for our orders. Hopefully, the Lyft arrived after I left because I knew I would have a time trying to get her ass in that car. How did I miss her crazy? She’d been so mild mannered.

As I sat there, my phone buzzed with a text message. I pulled it from my pocket to see a picture from Kinisha. She was smiling big. Then there was another picture of her eating a big-ass slice of pizza with her eyes closed. I chuckled slightly as I noticed the scowl on Mya’s face in my peripheral vision. I responded with a heart face and laughing emojis. Hopefully, she’d be able to keep it down.

The guy who had approached us earlier brought our food to us in to-go containers, and I couldn’t be happier. I stood from my seat, and she did so as well. “Mya, I got a Lyft for you. You can’t ride with me.”

“Why? You’ve never had a problem with me riding with you.”

“You ain’t never flipped the script on me, either. I don’t trust you. You gon’ have to find another job too.”

There were clearly some mental issues present because she stood there crying like I’d hurt her feelings. She was mild again, like she hadn’t just flipped out a little while ago.

“Okay, Mr. Andrews. I’m so sorry. I really love working for Andrews Technologies.”

She sat at the table just as the Lyft arrived. “Your ride is here.”

She nodded as she wiped her face, then grabbed her food. “Is it taking me to the office to pack my things?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

She walked out without another word, leaving me standing there confused as hell. I walked out to my car and followed them to the office. Thankfully, Ronnie was there so I wouldn’t be alone with her. When I walked in after her, Ronnie smiled and said, “Boss man, how you doing today, sir?”

I smiled slightly as his smile dimmed. He frowned when he saw Mya grabbing a box from the back. “We need to have a meeting after the original meeting today if you have time,” I told him while sending a text to the other technicians.

That irritated the hell out of me because I wouldn’t get to see Kinisha today. The meeting would obviously keep us here a lot later. This shit was frustrating as hell. I’d put out an ad for a new tech, but I’d have to hire at least three now. This was bullshit I didn’t need, and I could only hope I wouldn’t encounter future problems with Mya because she seemed crazy as hell.

Before Ronnie could respond to me, Mya started screaming. That bitch is crazy as fuck.Ronnie and I quickly ran to her office to find her on the floor, pulling her hair. I was about ready to pull hair I didn’t fucking have. I was two seconds from calling the nuthouse to come get her ass. When Ronnie walked closer to her, she only started screaming more. “You all hate me! I don’t want to leave, Oliver!”

Ronnie looked back at me, his eyes wide. I slightly rolled my eyes and gestured for him to follow me with a tilt of my head.

“What is going on with Mya?” he asked as we stepped out into the hallway.

“We were going to lunch. I called my lady, and when I got off the phone, she admitted that she thought we could be together and how much she loved me. She flipped her fucking lid at the Turkey Leg Hut. I was so damn embarrassed. She was screaming and shit, like she’s doing now. I have never insinuated that I wanted a relationship with her, so I don’t know what her issue is. The most physical interaction we’ve had is a handshake, so I’m lost as hell.”

“I have a sister with mental issues. She’s bipolar, and I swear, Mya seems to be doing some of the same shit she be doing at times. She overexaggerates everything. What do you want to do?”

“I’m going to look at her file to see if there’s someone listed I can call to come get her or calm her down.”

“Okay. I’m going to go back inside her office to watch her.”

“Thanks, Ronnie.”

I headed straight to the file cabinet in my office to pull her file. I knew for a fact that she didn’t list any illnesses on her application. That was something I wouldn’t forget. I sat at my desk and looked through paperwork and evaluations and shit. There was nothing there indicating that she had problems. Slowly shaking my head, I went to her application and saw her mother listed as an emergency contact.

I quickly dialed the number from the phone on my desk, and she answered on the first ring. “Mya, what’s wrong?”

“It’s her boss, Oliver Andrews.”

“Oh no. Something has happened if you’re calling me.”

“She kind of uhh . . . flipped on me when we went to get lunch. Is there a diagnosis I should be aware of?”

She took a deep breath as Mya started screaming again. “My God. Is that her?”
