“Why am I here?” I demand. She crosses the room ignoring me.
“I asked you a question.”
“I’ll answer when I am ready,” I bite out.
“No, you’ll answer me now.”
She turns to look at me, and before I know it, she flies across the room, grabbing a handful of my hair, tugging it roughly back, then slams my head against the wall. Pain envelopes me, and I grit my teeth to save myself from crying out.
“I need your DNA.” She roughly tugs several strands of hair from my head and walks back over to the cauldron I hadn’t seen until now.
She’s a witch!
“You keep stealing my pack members, Declan. Never mind Amanda and her brother were useless, but that should have never happened.”
Pack? What pack?“What pack? There’s only mine and Edward’s down here.”
She looks at me with a wicked grin. “Really? Shows what you two men know. I’m the niece of the Alpha of the Central Otago Pack, but I want more. I am here to steal your clan. I’m owed it. It should’ve been mine years ago.”
“How so?”
“Enough with the fucking questions. Hand it over willingly, or I’ll take it by force.”
“Never!”
She lunges at me, her nails attacking my skin as she rips out my hair and pokes me with another needle. Fuck, this is not how I wanted this to go.
She removes the needle, and to my surprise, I’m overwhelmed with a feeling of dizziness, followed by lust. My thoughts turn to Winter.
Reaching out through my mind, I scream.‘Winter, I love you!’Hoping like hell she can hear me and know I am alive.
My declaration must have been said aloud as Scarlett lashes out at me with her nails and mind. Her strength sends me across the room, and the next thing I know, she’s shackling me to a wall, cackling with laughter as I groan against the pain. Once done, she stabs me with a second needle, the burning from before starting all over again as the mixture takes hold of my body, and I can’t stop it from happening.

WINTER
‘Winter, I love you!’is screamed in Declan’s voice loudly in my head. My heart hammers within my chest as I lay awake in his room, alone. Did I dream it? No, I don’t think I did. I think he was reaching out to me, which means, at this time, he is still alive.
I get up, tossing the blankets off myself. I grab a fleece robe from the wardrobe and make my way downstairs. I’m hoping if I have a hot chocolate, it’ll make me sleepy again.
When I enter the kitchen, I find Zane, Graham, Liliana and Margaret all there. Margaret looks up from her place by the oven where she is frying some bacon in a pan which causes my stomach to growl.
“Good morning, Winter. I was just going to come and wake you.” She smiles as she bustles over to hug me.
“Is there any news?” I ask.
Zane looks at me and shakes his head. “I’m afraid not, but don’t worry, Winter, we will find him.”
“Zane, it’s been over twenty-four hours since anyone’s seen him. You really think he’s still alive?” Tammy asks from over by the dining table.
Other members of the clan are sitting with her: Christian, Martha, Brendan, and a few others have voiced their unflattering opinion of me and don’t care for a human as their Luna.
“I heard him,” I say.
Tammy scoffs and rolls her eyes. “Yeah, sure you did.”
“Tammy, zip it,” Zane commands. “When did you hear him, Winter?”
