‘Where the hell is Christian?’I demand as I patrol, counting all the members in my head. I told my clan I needed them all here.

‘No idea,’Graham responds.

‘I’ve got the scent, Declan. I’m going to catch them,’Liliana’s angry voice yells in my head.

‘You okay, Lil?’I ask.

‘Nope. Christian is fucking some bitch, and I walked in on it. I want a fight,’she says.

‘Lily, come with me,’Zane says.

‘On my way,’she replies.

Shit! All I need is a vengeful tiger.

I’ll get to the bottom of the mess that is Liliana and Christian, but only when this threat is gone.

‘Declan, the wolf is running towards your place,’Zane’s voice booms through my mind.

Growling, I turn towards my home. Sure enough, when I arrive, the distinct scent of a wolf surrounds my house. The very same one that was hanging around Winter’s house a week ago.

Now, I’m out for blood. This wolf will not get away.

Racing around my house, I’m sure I’m on track to finding it. It’s right in front of me. My heart pounds harder with each step I take. Then, I slow to a sneaking prowl around the side of my house, only to discover it’s gone.

Damn it!I swear I had that wolf cornered.

Inhaling, I can still smell it. I follow the path the entire way around my house, over to my back fence and out into the forest behind it. Then, the scent is gone. It vanished like it was never even there—a ghost wolf. My main question is, what did the wolf want with my house?

Graham appears behind me in his bear form.‘The threat seems to have gone, but I’m not convinced it won’t be back. I also have a suspicion that someone helped them across our boundary.’His thoughts project into my head.

I nod at him.‘Keep your crew on patrol tonight. I think the wolf was merely searching for information. I’m unsure why. If there’s any more activity tonight, I want to know about it immediately. Also, dispatch someone to my Nana’s house.’

‘Already done, boss. Kelcy went to her place when this all started.’

‘Good. I need a whiskey.’He chuckles in his bear form and stalks off away from me. This wasn’t how my night was supposed to go at all.

I dispatch the group and head towards my house. Shifting into my human form, I change into the clothes I left in my gym.

Hearing familiar voices in my house, I’m determined to find out two things. Who the fuck is the wolf on our damn property, and where the fuck was Christian?

I rely on my clan to protect everyone, including me. I find Zane at the bar helping himself to my whiskey and pouring Christian a glass.

“Oh, look what the cat dragged in,” I holler through the room.

“Alpha, I can explain.”

I arch an eyebrow at him. I already know where he was, but I’m interested to hear his take on the tale. Pouring myself a whiskey, I sit down and wait for his explanation.

DECLAN

“Start talking,” I demand of Christian.

He drains his glass before pouring another. “I wasn’t there tonight because I was marking my mate. I was at the winery restaurant when she walked into the room, and honestly, I have no idea how powerful the mating would be. Anyway, Liliana walked in as we were doing the nasty and after I had marked this other wolf. It wasn’t pretty, I assure you.”

I arch an eyebrow. “Is there more to the story, or is it simply you let the team down to get your dick wet?”
