Professor Landon smirks. “Do you think I’m stupid, Juliet? I know you requested to be placed under me as your mentor.” I shake my head.No.I never did that. I open my mouth to tell him that he’s wrong when he continues, cutting me off. “But if you want to play hard to get, I’ll wait. You know where to find m—”

“Is there a problem here?”

Chase’s low growl slices through the room, low and menacing.

Professor Landon looks over my shoulder in surprise. “Mr. Ravage. Thank you for hosting this fabulous party for my wife. We were honored to receive your funding offer.”

Chase walks up to us, slinking an arm around my waist and tugging me closer to him. He looks between us as something registers in his mind.

“Ah. I should’ve put two and two together. Of course, you work at the same university as my Juliet,” he says, his voice still tainted with something threatening and violent.

MyJuliet.

Professor Landon looks between us. “He’s your date?” Professor Landon asks me.

I nod. “He is.”

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be dragging mydate into the bathroom and making her scream so loud that she forgets every other man who’s ever been inside of her.”

Professor Landon mutters something, but I don’t hear it as Chase drags us away to an abandoned room.

I turn to face Chase with a shy smile as he hands me a glass of champagne. “Thank you for rescuing me,” I say, sipping my bubbles.

“You don’t need rescuing, Juliet. But I’m more than happy to stake my claim.”

His words cause shivers to slide down my spine. I tip my glass to his, and we both take a sip without breaking eye contact. He opens his mouth to say something when someone walks up behind him.

“Fuck, there you two are. I need saving,” Miles says, straightening his tie.

I arch a brow as I take in his disheveled look. “Hello, Miles. I’ve been dying to ask if you’ve swindled a poor, innocent soul into holy matrimony.”

Chase snorts as he sips his champagne, coughing once to cover it up.

Miles glares at me as he tilts his head, giving me a brittle smile. He looks so much like Chase—except where Chase is soft, where his lips are round and plush, Miles is all cut angles and a long, sharp nose. Still handsome, but in a more ruthless way. Where Chase is fire, Miles is ice.

“You’ve got yourself a witty one,” Miles bites out, glancing at his brother before looking back at me. “Nice to see you again, Juliet. Twice in one month… must be my lucky night.” He winks as his words sink in.He hasn’t told Chase that he’s the one who gave me the invite to The Hunt.

“Nice to see you as well, Miles.”

“And no, still no fake wife. Just an angry date who didn’t appreciate my swift proposal.”

Chase’s eyes flick over his brother’s face. “You look like you’ve been mauled.”

He gives Chase a wan smile. “Unfortunately, yes. Though I am discovering that the whole primal thing is very much not my thing.” His eyes scan mine. “No offense to the two of you.”

I bark a laugh and cover my mouth. Well, there goes the question of if Miles knows about Chase’s proclivities.

He adjusts his collar, and I get a glimpse of warped skin underneath his starched collar. His light-blue eyes—so similar in shade to Chase’s—narrow as he covers his scars back up.

Right, the fire. I’d nearly forgotten.

“Well, I’ll leave you two lovebirds to it. Have a good night.” He nods at me once before walking away, smoothing his hair as he goes.

Chase pulls me into another exhibit room, and neither of us speak as we go from piece to piece. The air is heady and tense thanks to what Chase said to Professor Landon, and I want to ask if he meant what he said—about dragging me into the bathroom and making me scream. I have to rub my thighs together to dispel the ache. Chase is reciting something from one of the descriptions, and when he looks over at me, he takes in my flushed chest and neck. He continues reciting meaningless words and names, his voice low, and I try to follow his train of thought. The champagne is making my head feel light, and I want nothing more than to feel him inside of me again.

“Are you paying attention, Juliet?”

His commanding tone snaps me out of my lust-filled daze. I look up at him and nod. “Of course.”
