I stumbled out the bedroom, still trying to shove my feet into socks. I fell on the couch next to Drake and worked my feet into shoes while running through a list in my head of what I needed to do.
Drake slowly climbed to his feet and stretched even more. “If I’m going to be over here very often, I’m buying you a new couch. My back is killing me.”
I paused and looked up at him. “Nope. I can’t deal with that right now.”
He grabbed his keys from the coffee table and swung them around his finger. “Come on, Cupcake. I’ll drive you to the school. I have time to kill before I have to meet up with Cole and Price later.”
A heavy knock sounded at the door that startled me. A crazy thought flashed through my head that maybe the principal had called the cops on me and they had shown up to arrest me for threatening the kids. I looked at Drake and frowned. “Who’s that?”
He laughed. “You’re a mess right now, aren’t you?”
I pouted and nodded at the door. “Check for me, please? If it’s the cops, I’m not here.”
“This door is paper thin. If we were the cops, you’d be fucked.” The same voice I’d heard on the phone the night before called out. Price. “Open up, Drake.”
Drake sighed and shook his head. “No. Go away.”
I stood up and grabbed my bag. “You three can fight or do whatever you want to do, but I have to get to the school.”
“And I’m driving you to school, so come on.”
Through the door, another voice called out. “I guess we’re all going to school.”
I looked at Drake and gestured at the door. “I’m not taking three grown men to school with me.”
“Is she seriously still in school? I thought we were kidding about that. Jesus, Drake, get the fuck out of there.” The voice that had to belong to Cole sounded horrified.
I pushed past Drake and yanked the door open. “I have to meet my sister’s principal at her school because I threatenedsome kids who were bullying her. Sorry I can’t invite you in, but please move out of my way.”
I didn’t take the time to look at either man. I was aware I was being rude, but I didn’t care. Principal James had also been my principal when I was in school and I could still see his expression of disgust when anyone did anything wrong.
“The door wasn’t locked, was it?” Drake followed along behind me. “What are you two doing here, by the way? How’d you find me?”
Price laughed easily and seemed to be following behind Drake. “You know we all have our locations turned on. When you weren’t at your house this morning, we were intrigued. We wanted to meet the woman who isn’t interested in our buddy but let his sorry ass stay the night, anyway.”
Without thought, I angled my body towards the street to walk the short distance to the school. A big hand pressed against my back and turned me towards the large SUV parked behind Drake’s truck. I glanced up and nearly stumbled over a crack in the driveway when I saw Cole staring down at me with a crooked grin on his face.
“You can ride with us. Drake, too, of course.” His eyes roamed my face for longer than socially acceptable and then he cleared his throat. “We’re parked behind him.”
Cole was the light to Drake’s dark. He looked like a Viking with his blonde hair pulled back from his face and his blonde stubble. His pale blue eyes were arresting against his tan skin and dark eyelashes. He was big, the same towering height as Drake, and his threadbare t-shirt did nothing to hide the muscles underneath. Despite his sharp cheekbones and strong jawline, the way he smiled softened everything and made him devastatingly charming. It was a dangerous combination.
I found myself sitting in the backseat of the SUV and being buckled in before I snapped back to attention. I looked awayfrom Cole with heat staining my cheeks. I’d been so obvious in checking him out but I’d just spent the night with his best friend. That wasn’t okay.
Unfortunately for me, my eyes landed on Price sliding in behind the wheel. He turned to look back at me and glass bottle green eyes landed on me with an amused gaze. He smiled and his full lips parted to reveal perfect white teeth and the tip of his tongue.
I swallowed audibly at the sight of that tongue. Jesus. What was wrong with me?
Price ran a hand through his short, curly brown hair and then over his beard. “The picture didn’t do you justice. Which I think means you should kick Drake to the curb and fake date me.”
Fake date. Their whole plan. Understanding hit me like a brick to the nose. They weren’t giving me come-hither looks in any serious way. They were looking for public dates to make sure their brand didn’t suffer. That took some of the pressure off, I guessed.
“Less talking and more driving, Green Eyes.” I sat back in my seat and dropped my head back on the headrest. I tuned out the men laughing and tried to reorient myself. I had to face Principal James and do my best not to get arrested. After getting the idea of cops in my head, I was quietly convinced I was going to be facing jail time.
“Directions, Cupcake?” Drake reached back from the front seat and rested his hand on my thigh. “Or an address?”
I snapped my head up and looked around to find all three of them looking at me. Cole was sitting next to me and his long legs looked more than a little cramped, even in the large SUV. I met Drake’s gaze and found him smiling at me. “Um..”
He waited patiently for me to get my shit together. Price had the vehicle in reverse and they were both waiting on me.
